Based on today's results I am going to stick with my original post, the posts following it to the contrary.

People need to not be so picky. This team is definitely Final Four worthy and Pac12 worthy. The team is much deeper than Oregon's. And Oregon doesn't even have a true center. Ruthy Hebard is no Gulich/Hamblin. But they were till expected to win the P12. I really think it will be a toe to toe, maybe a one game difference for the title this year.

I sure wish Jo were not a true center just exactly like Ruthie.

One of my least favorite sayings is "sometimes less can be more". Seems like the Beav's could be an example of this being true. All of these great guards but sometimes it seemed like everyone wanted to make sure they didn't step on anyone's toes. But with Kat out peeps know they need to step up and it's OK because they need more production to make up for her absence. It's only a couple of games but lets hope this continues.

Oregon actually has a true center the just don't play her that much. She is really athletic and covers a lot of space defensively.Graves just doesn't value defense that much.

You calling Graves a liar? He says his team doesn't really do the defensive thingy. Their objective is to outscore the other team.

Certainly not calling you a liar...but Oregon's coach has pretty consistently said that team defense is key to Ducks having a Final Four season. Virtually every interview, post game press conference this year. He has also stated that he isn't too concerned about offense (Oregon leads the nation) and focus is on D. Interviews with players this year have collaborated the coach's emphasis on sound defense.

I like the team but still not sure where we stack especially to say deep tournament run yet. We literally have played almost every bottom team in the Pac 12. Need to see how we do against the upper tier teams. I thought WSU gave us some trouble so we will see. Crazy how improved Washington is this year. Need McWilliams to elevate her game or at the very least play like last year imho. Go Beavs!

Washington has looked good offensively against shorter posts, but we'll have to see if she gets her jumper to work against taller posts like Hebard and Anigwe. It doesn't matter AT ALL how an individual does against the weaker teams: The game will be won regardless. It's only against the teams that will determine your won/loss record that performance matters, and those teams usually have big, strong posts. And while McWilliams is a solid player, the kind you want to have the ball in her hands for a critical shot, she has not taken the step up that so many people had hoped she would take this year. I think she just lacks the natural speed and physical strength needed on both offense and defense to be an elite player. You can only work within the limits of your genetic inheritance.

Agree with all of this except that I have always felt that Katie has more than enough speed, quickness and strength to be elite, just not the mentality of a scorer. The amount of times she will make a good first move and get her defender leaning and then do nothing with it, or all the times she receives the ball with a lane and instead of going strong to the basket she will pull up for an open 12' jumper drives me nuts to no end. She was jumping for the opening tip in one of our games last week. I mean she has all the tools to be a complete game changer, but for whatever reason she just... doesn't do it. All in her head IMHO.

Don't results against all the teams on the schedule determine your win/loss record? I was speaking of "how an individual does against weaker teams", not "results". Many of the teams we've played have have been easy victims. Any individual's performance was pretty much irrelevant: We would have won anyhow. My point is that you could say "Wow, Grymek looks great" against some weak team, but so what? ALL THAT MATTERS is whether she can do well against a strong team. If every time she's REALLY challenged, she fumbles the ball or misses the shot, then she's of no use to the team. So I would say "What does it matter that she played well against Podunk U? It don't matta." People quote stats from players computed from non-conference games that are largely weak teams, and based on that they proclaim someone to be a valuable component of the team. I say it don't matta. If Maddie can perform well against teams like ASU, UO, and Standfart, then her performance will impress. She's shown promise against UCLA and USC, but those teams did not have Anigwe and Hebard and Alana Smith between her and the bucket. Her release is slow and predictable, so I have my doubts. A long arm, good jump, or quick defense might easily shut her down.

Katie needs to step up for this team to go far. When she took two of the first three shots in the last game, I thought “alright!” But then she disappeared. ?? Could we put Katie in a room with Tres Tinkle’s sister and have them talk it over, please. That woman seems to have enough %#!*¥ to charge a semi-truck.

The elder of the two sisters was ranked really, really high. I think she ended up at Stanford. A few years too early.
