As summer forges onward, speculation on what school Hailey Van Lith (HVL) will choose is stirring. Based on what I've gathered very recently from WBB forums like "The boneyard" (UCONN), "Walz's World" (Louisville) and "Sicem365" (Baylor) it sounds like OSU's strongest competition to sign Hailey is probably coming from Louisville and Baylor. How much Oregon is still in play is unknown...but I refuse to purchase a membership to access VIP commentary on their forum "The Duck Pond" on 247Sports.com. Finally, not much buzz anymore about HVL going to UCONN, but I did read that Paige Bueckers (a UCONN commit) is encouraging/trying to convince a couple high profile players to join her on her official visit to UCONN. Since HVL and Bueckers are buds it is possible HVL is one of them she is trying to convince. If so, UCONN can't be entirely eliminated from the picture.
Some specific Louisville and Baylor info.:
1. "(HVL) Was coached the entire month of July by Jeff Walz; we expect the Cards will get an official visit from Van Lith." Others say her official visit is a sure thing. My comment: If Walz and HVL bonded well, this could be huge.
2. Louisville is in need of a PG, as is Baylor. Highly rated PG Sarah Andrews from Texas has both Baylor and Louisville in her final 5, so her choice could be a tipping point in the process as well. 3. On Baylor's WBB forum, a member in good standing wrote yesterday: "I am not at liberty to disclose the sources but it appears that we have more than a very good chance with HVL at this time. But these are young kids who are making big decisions. So the situation is fluid, but not so much with HVL."

It was interesting because on the Baylor site, there were people saying HVL was likely going, and one that she wasn't. Her recruitment is going to be very interest to follow down the stretch.

I pay very little attention to any of these WCBB school blog sites when it comes to recruitment. If OSU is serious about recruiting HVL, then I suspect HVL will be seriously considering OSU. There is much to offer HVL, even beyond basketball with the OSU program. I have no doubt, HVL's decision will be a challenge, but I like that their is radio silence. If HVL makes a formal visit to OSU, given who she is, and what she cares about beyond basketball, I think OSU is in a tremendous position to make a lasting impression.

I do pay attention to it (even though I try not to!), but I never truthfully believe anything I hear. Heck even look at our site, where people were saying Caitlin Clark had a visit scheduled in the fall.

I guess hope means something.

I read some of the other WBB blog sites, mostly for fun and curiosity.... Like every smart consumer of the printed word, I take conjecture and prediction with a grain of salt - especially when posted anonymously. Which is not the same as throwing it away. Or even assuming it is pointless, random or false. Rather, I just store it away in some under-used part of my memory until it is verified or refuted...
But I will say that I find it interesting that of the several hundred fans who read the OSU & Baylor WBB boards not one person has come up with what I consider persuasive information on HVL's recruitment. Not one.
I grew up in a small Washington town not far from Cashmere and I can tell you that in our small town, news, when real, travelled fast. And almost as fast when it was almost real...Yet from the dozens of players, coaches, teachers, and fans in Cashmere who know HVL and her family - not a peep. Something right about that.
Good on ya' Cashmere. GO BEAVS !!

I've spent a fair bit of time in and around Leavenworth, Cashmere not so much.

Per an extremely reliable source, Savannah Samuels appears seriously interested in Oregon State.

A very under-the-radar prospect. She actually played on the best AAU team in the country this summer (FBC Hunt), and is the sixth-woman behind all five-star recruits. She spent some of the summer starting as one of their players was injured. She is a long 6-1/6-2 wing and is athletic and has a really pretty stroke. She attends St. Francis in GA, and they’ve produced some pretty good talent.

It's obvious Samuels is interested in the Beavs, but I curious what it would take for the Beavs to offer her. She can definitely shoot the 3, so I see why she would be someone the Beavs would watch closely, but would the Beavs offer if they landed HVL and Daniels? I'm guessing not, but I could see how she would fit in and maybe flourish in the Beavs system.

I suppose it's a question of how they view the 3 spot going forward. Unless they think Simmons could be effective there at both ends of the floor, there's nobody in either our current sophomore or junior classes (junior and senior when she would arrive) who fits that position. If they're very comfortable with both Brown and Jones playing there, they could

Whoops. Meant to delete what I was starting to write when I remembered that they already have Goforth coming in at the 3 spot, but screwed up and posted it instead. Please ignore that one.
Even with Goforth, there isn't a lot of depth at that position looking forward, so they could certainly use another in either 2020 or 2021. Having a few scholarships in your hip pocket, as Scott always does, allows the luxury of taking a flyer on someone like Savannah. Maybe she becomes the next Kat Tudor, who was only # 93 on Hoopgurlz in her senior year, maybe she's a bust, maybe she's something in between those two. Who knows? But, if the Beavs do have some interest in recruiting her, it's not like that scholarship is the last one available. If they don't give it to her, it probably doesn't get used.
One other thing - it opens up yet another area of the country for recruiting. If she's playing on one of the top AAU teams in the nation, bringing her in could very well open the eyes of more young talented players in the southeast. Awareness of west coast programs is always a battle 3 time zones away, and I don't think the PAC 12 Network is on too many cable options in Georgia. Maybe some of them start paying a bit of attention to us instead of Louisville or Tennessee. Every little bit helps.

For the die-hards: 10$ to tune into today's games at the Prime Event (Sasha, Savannah, Addy Brown). NOTE: there are no replays.
Savannah and Sasha will play each other in the finals.

That would of been a great game to watch. I'm guessing Jersey and Kelbie Washington played too, so lots of potential future Beavs in that game. Did anyone tune in?
Saw this tweet from Katie F today. "One week until I get to call some of the coolest people in the whole wide world. Countdown to September 1!" In reference to being able to contact recruits. Savannah Samuels 'liked" the tweet. I'm really curious to see if the Beavs will invite her out for an official visit.
