I think we’re going to have to develop a much better inside game with our bigs to be as successful as we’d like to be. I don’t think we can live quite so much by outside shots and the three ball.

Held WKU to their lowest total of the season so far with 60. Good defensive effort. Lackluster tonight on offense. (previously scored 80, 83, 67, 90 and 76) 14/16 from the foul line tonight

Hopefully we got the terrible three point shooting out of our system tonight, because that won’t cut it tomorrow. Solid scoring from our starting three guards - Slocum, Pivec, and McWilliams had 18,18, and 17, but not a whole lot besides that.
Taya, Kat, and Destiny were 0-4, 0-4, and 0-5 from three. That is not a typical occurrence. I want to see a more aggressive Taya, we need her to become a consistent scoring threat, but she hasn’t proven to be one yet.
We only had 10 assists and I believe we were averaging 30. Not 100% on that though, but anyways we were struggling to get into any sort of flow most of the night and missing threes can do that to us.
I MISS MARIE!!! And there is no Marie this year. Trish gave solid minutes off the bench for the most part. I also didn’t like how the game was reffed tonight, but that may have just been a personal preference.

Pretty sparse crowd in downtown Vancouver on US Thanksgiving night

After what happened in the NCAA tournament last season, it was quite evident that they were working very hard to deny the 3, and putting that over helpside defense. Destiny and Mik got a bunch of easy drives because they weren’t helping off the three much, and if they were helping stop the drive, that is when we get our kick outs for the open 3. Those two can take anyone iff the dribble.
Much like us, South Carolina has 4 point guards so it will be an interesting matchup. They shot 11-16 yesterday after shooting 1-21 vs. Maryland from 3. I think it may come down to who is knocking down shots, because we will need to. I am counting on bug games from the three who had them last night, plus Kat. Aleah is going to need to be able to come in and give solid minutes, likewise for Jo and Maddie. Hopefully we can get some scoring out of Taya and Janessa too.

Putting the actual play aside for the moment, I would guess the Vancouver Showcase itself is a one and done. Abysmal attendance illustrates the folly of scheduling it on American Thanksgiving and the lack of interest among the locals. The championship game, which will be a marquee matchup, will (I assume) begin at 8:30 Pacific time, so near midnight on the east coast. They're using the radio guys from the participating teams as the announcers, and some of them sound like students taking a broadcast class. I have not been impressed by a single thing I've seen.

At least the Beavs had a nice showup. I did purchase the broadcast and it was TERRIBLE.

Also worth noting Drake is the #1 ranked mid-major.

Whether it survives depends on whether can draw sponsors. These tourneys are always marginal propositions with crappy attendance, and they live and die based on whether they can get good signature sponsors. (The Far West Classic died when Fred Meyer pulled out.) Looking at the sponsor list, you see a few tourism/hotel names - their "sponsorship" is probably just discounted hotel rooms and arena fees - and TCL. TCL is a Chinese company (they make the Roku, and now own the assets of BlackBerry and Palm). As sponsors go, it's as good as it gets, so maybe it gets a couple years to grow some legs.

I know these assessments are subjective but I thought Jon Warren was fine. Mike Parker has a photographic memory and an organized approach that borders on compulsive behavior. Compared to Mike nearly any announcer is going to seem disorganized.

Hank hager has had to step in & help him the last 2 years. By himself Jon is abysmal. Hank makes it almost tolerable. So if Jon is by himself on a fast paced Pbp I see nothing but trouble. Here is a suggestion...try Lydia Parker. She is getting her chops IIRC

Jon was far from great, but he was as good as any of the others, and way better than the guy for Rutgers. But, overall, terrible is an accurate assessment of the broadcasts. From beginning to end, they cry out that they were done on the cheap.
