Baseba1111 - you are probably correct about families not wanting to travel during U.S. Thanksgiving.... But almost 8 million people live within a 2-3 hour drive of the Vancouver Convention centre... Getting 2,000 - 2,500 of them to attend a premiere basketball tourney is not exactly asking for the moon... But since they are not showing up, maybe you have a point.
The men are playing BEFORE the Thanksgiving Holiday - it will be interesting to check out their attendance numbers... Basically, neither Men nor Women tourneys have been promoted worth a damn... That's why they had to hire help from the 20% discount guy at Seattle Storm - whose name I cannot recall at this moment....
Basically, you must have local fans show up if you want decent attendance numbers... Vancouver has supported UBC basketball pretty well for years...It's also a hot spot for H.S. basketball....
But, as of today, there is no indication whatsoever that Vancouver basketball fans are supporting this tournament...

In fairness to South Carolina, the fact that they played a very tough opponent (Maryland) should help them a bit. It will definitely help their readiness in playing another tough team. So far, the Beavs haven't been challenged, which I think hurts them a bit. Consider, however, that SC lost badly to UM @ HOME and they haven't had a tough road game. Now they have to travel 2400 miles for a road game. They are going to have to deal with that, too. For those going to the game, these notes from the Vancouver Showcase: Doors will open 60 minutes before the tip-off. Please arrive a bit early as you will need to have your ticket scanned and go through security. There are no in and out privileges. Enterance is located inside the ballrooms please enter via Ballroom Room A's Enterance.
Concessions - Concessions will be available for purchase in the fan zone located just after the enerance. Concessions will be offering Happy Hour specials until half hour before the game starts. Save by arriving early. Concessions take debit, credit and cash payments.
Washrooms are located inside the facility.
Security will be screening bags before you enter. We recommend not arriving with large bags to speed up your time in line.
Box Office an onsite box office is located in the coat check area just inside the lobby of the Vancouver Convention Centre East before the delcon. If you have any issues with your tickets please visit us there.

Gonzaga fans might also be a bit discouraged because of their first opponent: It is highly unlikely that Gonzaga is going to come out victorious and have a chance at getting to the championship game. So they're looking at a big loss followed by 2 pretty meaningless games in the loser's bracket.

Too bad the local Vancouver fans don't appear to be interested in watching teams from the USA, even if it includes several pretty good ones, including the women's defending National Champ. I guess they could have invited the Washington Huskies women's team, but they are not expected to be all that good this year. I'd travel from Bend (where I live) with a friend if not for health issues.
PS. South Carolina is flying to Vancouver today, so they will have plenty of time to practice and adapt to the time change.

Gonzaga got off to a good start then the Irish warmed up and took control. Big inside players from both teams they look pretty good. Irish take out first game 81-65

I’ve been streaming for awhile now. Must be the beer. It’s pay per view only. 10 bucks a game or 25 for the whole tournament

Jo having a good game, which is good to see. Maddie and Janessa getting exposed on defense for the most part. I really think Aquino could help. Taya NEEDS to start scoring and becoming a threat offensively if we want to do big things this season.

Has been a bad night for everyone not named Katie McWilliams from 3 tonight. Many of them not even looking good. Going to need to shoot better to have a shot at South Carolina.
