One thing that she really stresses about her recruiting process was the importance of how early we jumped on her. Us and Oklahoma were two of the first to recruit her, and both made her top 4. Makes you wonder what 2022 recruits we are going after ! Already a few I’m guessing Scott is beginning to recruit! Go Beavs!

bennyskid brings an interesting idea to the discussion..I found it helpful. He says to think of Kennedy Brown as a 6'5" version of Katie Mac. If you look at it that way the idea of her playing what used to be called "small forward" seems quite sensible. Now, I will say this: If Kennedy Brown truly turns out to be a 6'5" version of Katie Mac we've got an absolute monster on the roster....
At any rate, I'm glad she's headed our way. GO BEAVS !!

A 6’6” player with a game as well-rounded as KTMac’s would be exciting. Katie is so good at so many things which is what makes her valuable. She handles, she passes, she shoots, she defends, she rebounds, and she will post with a smaller defender on her. If we can get 6’6” to do these things... watch out! I would say the biggest thing for her to work on is speed if she wants to play the 3. Defending aggressive, slashing 3s like NDs Jackie Young will definitely require some speed. Guarding a player like Bando, who was tsdtr’s 3 last year, or Boley this year, not such a problem.

As everybody is pointing out, KB must learn how to play D at the perimeter if she wants to play the 3. I see her playing the stretch 4 more than a 3. Watching her video, she is not ready to play the 3, and we all know that D comes first at OSU WBB. Full confidence that Rueck & his coaching staff will have her in a position to succeed as an OSU WBB team member.

Looks like SR and the other coaches have a really cool MO: identify talent early, create a deep, lasting relationship with the player, their family and coaches.....get the player to visit Corvallis. Said player must be from a high-character background, spiritually inclined, value family and team over individual. This is likely why we aren't "in" on some of the very talented but "me, me, me" players who don't give a beaver's behind about team, community, family, etc. and are chasing their own agenda (as the line in a movie I saw the other day stated - "no point in climbing the ladder if it's leaning against the wrong wall"). Not everyone is cut out for, say, Beavers Without Borders......this is also why our commits remain commits - we aren't recruiting "flighty" types, we are getting recruits that (in the words of Dan Seals) have figured out that "all that glitters is not gold". A few observations on Kennedy Brown signing that haven't been mentioned yet: - she connected with Syd Wiese, who is still connected to OSU coaching staff. When Syd's pro days are over, we should snag her as an assistant! - she could "feel" she was home when she visited Corvallis. So critical to get recruits to visit, it seems like the team, just by being itself and doing team things on visit weekends really helps seal the deal. - Dad created a massive spreadsheet of pros/cons. With teams like Louisville, Tennessee, Baylor, UCLA, 'ucks on it. Apparently we scored well in that evaluation. - her and Jones are already tight. Wonder who else on that Team USA was hanging with those two? - the look on her face when she snatched that rebound, pivoted and underhanded it to a teammate in the highlight video: 'new' KB (good thing Katie Baker got married and changed her name to KF, good planning on her part to eliminate a source of confusion on the message boards) may be the missing piece of attitude we need to get to the top...... - I have never liked when players announce with some kind of big to-do - I think I was traumatized by that football kid that wore an orange shirt to his "big reveal" just to reveal a non-OSU choice......but her video, when she slams the ball and goes from Derby Panther to OSU Beaver......goose bumps. - Looking forward to a 6'6" version of KTMac! I wonder if how we use KTMac and how she has developed swayed KB. At least on the offensive end, we will always have a mismatch somewhere in the 3, 4 or 5. Need speed on the other end, but also will make passing and rebounding hard on the opponent. - I can only imagine the plays SR is going to come up....
What a great get!
Go Beavers!

@2ndgenbeaver definitely brings up some important, pivotal components in KB's recruiting process and ultimately what led her to choosing the beavers. As has been pointed out before, her recruitment process wasn't exactly ordinary. It was very vigorous, very dynamic if you will. She was very precise in making sure the school checked all the boxes, and everyone here is glad OSU was the school to do so. PS - I think a fair amount of players on the Adidas Int'l team are already committed (including 2020 Keeli Burton who visited OSU before recently committing to ASU). The one who sticks out as not being committed is Talia Von Oelhoffen for, well, a few reasons: 1. She is a 2021, the only on the team 2. She is a PNW girl, hailing from Richland, WA 3. She is a 5-11 W who is ranked #5 by ESPN 4. She is followed by and follows a few OSU coaches 5. Talia von Oelhoffen: 5 Three Pointers vs DeSales

Kennedy Brown - Continues to add to her game.. Has become a force on the glass. A player with her size that is such a great passer and understands and communicates the game so well is rare.. She stretches the D with the ability to knock down the perimeter shot as well as drive the ball from the HP. She takes pride in the fact that she can guard a smaller opponent on the perimeter she gets in stance and uses her length to keep them in front and challenge any shot they may take. The strength on the block is improving great stamina for a big.

Reading this gave me goosebumps. Sounds like we won't be missing Gulich once Kennedy is on board. She sounds like she's cut from the same cloth, but her development is far above where Gulich's was when she arrived.

She may appear more athletic, but there's doubt in the out work, willing to learn, and becoming a beloved team leader. As... prob not possible to out do, only equal, what Marie accomplished. The other point, according to all reports, she wants to play as a 3 (mainly outside in SR's current schemes). She is a far cry from being ready for that at the Pac12 and elite D1 level. She'll have a tough time defending most of the best 3's in the Pac12. She's athletic for her size/build, but not for that position. Hence she has a long way to go, as her "athletic advantage" is over 4s and 5s, not wing types. It'll be interesting to see how she pans out. My guess she ends up as a 4, with some outside opportunities in the flow of the offense. I do not think SR is going to have 6'6", 6'7", 6'9" all on the court often/for long stretches vs the kind of quickness OSU faces.

Definitely some similarities between Gulich and Brown early on just reading Brown's descriptions. I agree that Brown's future seems to be either in the high-post or as a stretch-4 similar to Taya (remains to be seen if she has Taya's shooting ability). Just looking at a little bit of film on her, her games seems to be very well suited to play in the high-post. She definitely has a midrange game, as well as the ability to put the ball on the floor from that position. Also she has been labeled a good passer, so I would think she could get it in to the low-post effectively. Marie, while playing basically both high and low-post positions last season, had a style of game that was equally effective in both positions. Had Bre Brown stayed, we may have seen more from Marie in the high-post last year. Part of why Marie shined last year was because the paint was HERS and we ran so much through her. Kennedy seems to have a similar skillset to Marie, but will be playing with more traditional low-post prospects (i.e Jones and Morris).
