The Beavs continue strength and conditioning training this week as the first official practice of the '18-'19 season looms this coming Monday, October 1. Here's to hoping that any players currently nursing injuries (as previously reported on another thread on this message board) and/or recovering from postseason surgeries following the '17-'18 season are progressing with their recoveries and will be able to participate on October 1 as the team begins to develop its identity for the upcoming '18-'19 season.
The Beavs will open with an exhibition game on Saturday, November 3 against Northwest Nazarene University (from Nampa, Idaho) in Gill Coliseum at a time that is yet to be determined. The exhibition game was initially announced (and continues to be shown on its website) by NNU as being on November 2, but the game is being pushed back to November 3. The USC Trojans will be visiting Corvallis that Saturday for a football game on November 3, so the time of the football game and the women's basketball game still have to be finalized.

I was just going to ask if anyone knew when practice started. It looks like teams are allowed to start 42 days before their first official game, which would be this Friday by my count.

These athletes have a long season....Virtually 6 full months from first week of practice to the last week of their NCAA Tournament run.... Plus post-season and pre-season training sessions...It takes dedication to stick with this regimen.
The "dedication" part of excellence is often overlooked by your typical fan, by recruitniks, but it certainly isn't by good coaches..
Coach R has an exceptional eye for recruiting kids who not only work year round, but who continue to work even when things are not going well, when they're not getting floor time, when incoming players beat them out, when biding their time while an upperclassman is being rewarded for her loyalty to the program.
Most players remain dedicated when things are falling into place. But in basketball about 1/3 of the players don't see much floor time, and for some of them it doesn't seem like they will in the future either....These players must remain dedicated, uptempo, and selfless for the team to attain real chemistry, real cohesion.
The 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th players lace up everyday. They sweat and grind, grunt and groan elbow to elbow with the starters week after week. They provide competition for the starters. They get banged and bruised. They might not see the floor even after 3 or 4 years at the end of the bench.
But they're still there. Every day. Competing tough, playing tough every single day. They know what dedication means. What it really means.
These players with their special brand of dedication, are just one of the reasons I love this program.
GO BEAVS

A source very close to the team confirmed again today that Monday, October 1 is the first day of practice for the OSU women's team. I believe that NCAA rules allow for 30 practices within a 42-day period prior to the team's first official game. Consequently, teams may opt to have their first official practice day on a date different than another team even if both teams have their first official game on November 9.

Official / Unofficial - the grind never stops! They are going all the time, all official means is that the coaches are allowed to say they are. It does start Monday 'officially'

EXCITING! We need some Corvallis-based fans at practices giving us practice reports. Who are you? Please!

Bhf has it right, they are allowed 30 "official" practices in that period. While they can start later than the 42 day period allows but not before. The only change this year was in the potential date of the first game of the season, they moved it earlier by a few days to align with the men's schedule.

Are their practices open to the public? There are big windows court side so taking a peek wouldn't hurt

A backcourt with Pivec and Slocum is going to be STRONG. They both look so muscular. Will definitely help have 2 strong point guards in the backcourt. The addition of Slocum is so valuable in the sense that it will help move everyone to their natural position where the will be so much more effective. Ex. moving Tudor from the 2 to the 3 will benefit her a lot in the sense that with 2 distributors like Pivec and Slocum she will be able to spot up and shoot all day. KTMac will get to utilize her versatility more than last year, and Mik will get to be more of a scorer and less of a distributor.
One interesting thing is coming out of HS, ESPN deemed Slocum a Combo-guard and Pivec a PG. I’d say it is more reversed.
Also, Aquino and Morris will be a scary duo probably sooner than later.

Thickhead, you rock! Thank you very much for the photos. I'm so excited to see this team. I really think it will be a special season. Thanks again. Methinks you flatter me overly. I am little more than a humble plagiarist, an aggregator, who strives to ply OSU WBB fans with the audio/visual stimuli that we all crave. (In fact, I'm just looking desperately at all the darned links I can find to get some hint as to what transpired on practice day #1. I expected much more than I'm seeing. Maybe Gress at the GT will have an article since he was present at practice. If you check out the various OSU related Twitter pages you can find good stuff as well as I can.) The only good comment I saw on Steve Gress's Twitter page was this: "So spent most of my time watching the guards today at the Oregon State women’s basketball practice and my goodness can they fill it up." twitter.com/stevegress19
