I didn't say it wouldn't take a year. Katie's a senior, Thickhead. So you want credit for your amazing prediction that a year from now Katie won't be starting?

I didn't say it wouldn't take a year. And that's not the only thing I got right. If I got everything else wrong, then you're saying KtMac's athleticism is superior to Jasmine's, which is of course silly and contradicted by the evidence and all relevant metrics. Get real. Katie's a senior, Thickhead. So you want credit for your amazing prediction that a year from now Katie won't be starting?
Think before you speak. And it's "thickhead" (in lower case) because I'm so humble.

If Jazz is going to play any time at the 4, I see it being in the mold of a Gabby Williams from UCONN. Both stand 5’11”, both can jump out of the gym, and both can stuff a stat sheet. UCONN played in the AAC and virtually could have started anyone on their team at the 4 and would have had the same outcome whereas the Pac-12 is a lot more competitive. Will be interesting to see if that is a technique Rueck will ever employ, especially since she has so much height at his disposal. Just a FWIW: Gabby Williams was freakishly athletic. In high school, her high jump was just 8" short of an all-time world record for women. I also think she could dunk easily, whereas Jasmine probably needs another 6" at least. But still, Jasmine's leap is pretty remarkable for someone just 5'11".

thickhead, unless you have seen Jasmine play hoops "live", I'm not sure how you come up with what you do? KT Mac is not coming off the floor (as as starter) for Jasmine. KT Mac has been in the OSU system for 3 years, and played more minutes than anyone last year. KT Mac is a Rueck favorite. Until I see JS play, JS is just another team member. I will try and catch a practice when I'm at one of the football games. If I do, I'll give everyone a report.

I'm basing my optimism on her athleticism and her high-level competitive experience for national teams and in international 3x3 competitions, along with obviously high intelligence (if you've ever seen her speaking on video) and her extreme love of the game. Maybe I'm wrong, but my gut says I'm right. If not in her freshman year, then very soon, she'll be playing lots of minutes, I think. She was a captain of her U17 world championship team. She was the only non-pro on that Australian 3x3 team, so they must have thought a lot of her. She attacks the basket very aggressively and has great speed downcourt, which are 2 things no one can honestly argue that KtMac has. Her raw physical skills are on another level and she exudes extreme self-confidence. In everything I've seen of her, the only things she lacks relative to a player like KtMac are a great outside shot and experience under Rueck's system. You're right, we can't be sure, but I'm a believer. I was very high on Sydney as a freshman, too, and that worked out well.

beaverfan32 - -I can't figure out where the photos came from....(Where they were originally posted. Who shot them?) At any rate, the pic of Jazz grabbing the rim is very impressive. Very. The Beavs have a lot of good athletes on the roster but she looks like she is a cut above.. I don't remember Rueck having any player fans would call a "leaper." But Jazz sure looks the part... I know it's early. I know it takes more than athleticism to be great basketball player. But I gotta tell ya, I'm getting excited about this kid.... It's only mid-August !!! Tick, tick, tick..... GO BEAVS !! Hi 411500, the pics were posted on FB

If Thickhead is correct with his myriad of predictions (and when is he ever wrong?) and Jazz turns out to be a better rebounder than the PAC-12's best rebounding guard in Pivec (7.1 per game on the glass last season) and also displaces Katie McWilliams in the starting line-up (that won't happen unless Katie is injured), then please make room for Jazz right now on the All-PAC-12 15-member first team. Once again, I caution OSU fans from anointing Jazz as the best thing ever and allow her to work her way into the rotation and contribute where her strengths will allow during the non-conference games. If Jazz turns out to be as game-ready as Corosdale and Pivec have been during the past two seasons and can solidify her spot in the starting lineup prior to the start of PAC-12 Conference season, then I encourage Thickhead to come back on this thread and crow a bit about that accomplishment even more than usual. We'll have to calculate rebounds per minute played, not rebounds per game, since obviously Pivec will be playing a lot more minutes than Jasmine. With that condition, I'll accept that challenge. And as far as making the 15-member first team, note that KtMac didn't make it even as a Junior (one of 3 OSU players to receive honorable mention). So you don't have to be an all-conference first team member to outperform KtMac. And I said nothing about "prior to the start of the Pac-12 season", so don't pretend I did. Nor do I expect her to start, just saying she "could" be a starter. Rueck would probably not take KtMac out of the starting lineup, for the sake of team cohesion if nothing else. Jasmine is very obviously superior athletically (speed, vertical, strength) to KtMac and she's got the smarts to match. It's just a matter of time. Slocum is not the only newcomer this year who is gifted enough to displace a starter. Jasmine's athleticism (witness her showing off by grabbing that rim) also puts her a "cut above" any other player on our team, as 411500 opined above. I believe this is called "moving the goalposts."

Thank you, Glove. The poster thickhead is indeed highly skilled at "moving the goalposts" and attempting to re-frame his prior postings to allow for his predictions to have an enhanced likelihood of being accurate. Very pleased that other posters have noticed that tendency as well. If Jazz can deliver what thickhead is suggesting/ensuring, the Beavs will have another integral piece in their quest to regain the conference title from the favorites down south in Eugene. I am very optimistic about her potential, but also realistic in that there will be a learning curve as she adjusts to the D1 level of competition, especially when PAC-12 competition arrives in late December/early January.
