A'ja was the difference between being #6 and being #12. #12 is the *floor* for tUSC. The way Staley recruits and coaches, she could bench her seniors for the entire season, any season, and still be a Sweet 16 team. I'm hearing a lot of hype about tUSC, but perhaps you're unaware of Staley's record. Saying #12 is the *floor* for tUSC is quite a stretch based on limited history with Coach Staley. In the Staley era, prior to the arrival of A'ja, her team reached the Sweet 16 only twice and never made the Elite 8. Prior to 2012/13 her win/loss records were poor to average. Her 2012/13 team was 25-8 and died in the second round. Her 2013/14 team was 29-5 and died in the Sweet 16. Once A'ja arrived, things changed a bunch: 34-3, 33-2, 33-4 (NC), 29-7. Actually looks like they're sliding downhill this year at 29-7. I'm not saying tUSC will be bad this year. I'm just saying past results are not a guarantee of future performance, and the loss of A'ja could drop them well outside of NC contention. Maybe "scspur" is right about tUSC this year, or maybe not. We'll just have to wait and see. By the way, I went into my back yard and ran these thoughts by Henry (the toad, not Skrimshander), and it turns out he is in full agreement, and his reputation as a basketball analyst is hitherto untarnished. He can't talk, at least until Skrimshander kisses him, so he signals his agreement by peeing on me when I pick him up. And here is one "way-too-early" forecast for the Gamecocks at #15: No. 15 South Carolina GamecocksHaving to replace three first-round WNBA draft picks last year was difficult for Dawn Staley. Replacing A'ja Wilson, the consensus national player of the year and the program's best and most important player, this coming season might be harder. Big jumps by 6-2 Mikiah Herbert Harrigan and 6-foot LeLe Grissett will help, as will a big senior season from 6-3 Alexis Jennings. Getting Tennessee transfer Te'a Cooper on the court, and top-10 recruit Destanni Henderson's arrival in Columbia, South Carolina, should help Tyasha Harris at the point guard spot.www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/23045766/women-college-basketball-way-too-early-top-25-rankings-2018-19(So I'm not the only person who thinks SC probably won't be a top-10 team this year. "Floor" my a$$!) It's also interesting that the Te'a Cooper they mention is a transfer from Tennessee. Apparently she was forced out of UT when she instigated a fight with Jaime Nared. A real sweetie.

Have the other teams been announced ?? The Maui Classic web page still lists last year's field (assuming we are hosting the same event again). Go Beavers!

Have the other teams been announced ?? The Maui Classic web page still lists last year's field (assuming we are hosting the same event again). Go Beavers! A source who has been consistently spot on in the past with his info has shared that Texas A&M will be among the four teams playing in the Maui Classic in December. If so, that will allow for an interesting matchup between the Aggies standout sophomore point guard Chennedy Carter and the redshirt sophomore point guard Destiny Slocum for the Beavs. The presence of an established Top 15 program in Texas A&M in that event will also help considerably with boosting OSU's RPI, especially in contrast to the two opponents that the Beavs played in Maui in December 2017.

A&M will have a very new look as IIRC, Chennedy Carter is the only returning starter, but they will have a redshirt sophomore post who was a McDonalds All-American. Two strong SEC opponents + at least one strong ACC team in Duke will for sure help our RPI

bhf - I hope your source is right about A & M...That would make a great addition to the OOC schedule.... South Carolina, Duke and Texas A & M before Christmas - I'm impressed....Good for Coach R & Staff for putting all this together... Maybe there will be even more pleasant surprises when the Beavs release their pre-season schedule....
GO BEAVS !!

According to that "way-to-early" ranking of the WBB teams for 2018-19, we would be playing #15 SC, #20 Duke, and #22 TA&M this year. (TA&M has had a couple more players transfer out, so could it drop from that #22 prediction. Maybe Chennedy Carter is having the same repellent effect on them that Queen Sabrina is having on UO.) We have to do better than that. After all, playing #16 Duke and #5 ND last season didn't help much. Scheduling ND or UCONN this year should be a goal of ours. If we could destroy #2 UO or #6 Stanford in the conference season, that might make up for a weak non-conference schedule, though.

While we wait for the schedule to be posted, I found a couple more teams on the preseason schedule. Beavers play------ Saint Mary's . On Nov 17 in Corvallis. I didn't go over their roster to see the quality of their players but I think they will give the beavers a good game. smcgaels.com/schedule.aspx?path=wbballLaSalle University. on Dec. 1 in Corvallis. Looking at their game results the last couple of years, this should be an easy game. Everyone I think will get playing time. goexplorers.com/schedule.aspx?schedule=331

NW Nazarene ScheduleJust 2 months and 4 days to go: days until exhibition gameNW Nazarene's tallest player is a redshirt freshman at 6'0. I hope we keep the score down. Since it's an Idaho school, maybe Destiny knows some of their players.

If you click on the link I provided and scroll down to the conference games you will see this is the West Coast conference. They beat WSU and Gonzaga last year so I think they will give the Beavers a good game.

Go Beavers!

This comment popped an idea into my head. Now I don't like the yucks any more then anybody else but if SR and KG could work together when they do their schedules and schedule a big name school from the east coast to play OSU and U of O on the same weekend. It would save them money, (one airline trip to play 2 top 20 teams) It could be a Thursday Saturday schedule. It would be a great way for OSU and U of O to compare their teams against each other before they actually play each other.
I understand that Miss. St. is playing the ducks and Washington back to back.
