Dude, I think we can safely assume that South Carolina will challenge our team, any time we play them. It's an elite program.

Like I said I have a lot of respect for coach Rueck and what he’s done. I just didn’t want anyone to slight our team that’s all. Looking forward to this season.

Not sure what you mean by SC not being a top 10 team when we have finished in the top 10 or better for the past 6 years. Also I’m confused on having 6’2 posts won’t mean we will be as good in the paint? UCONN started 5’11” and 6’1” in the post last year and made t to the Final Four. I’m looking forward to possibly playing OSU in the Vancouver tourney and going against Scott Rueck. He’s and outstanding coach and I always pull for you guys in the tourney. But please don’t sleep on us, we will be better than many people think. Looking just at your top returners and ignoring incoming freshmen, it looks like you go 5'6", 5'10", 5'10", 6'0", and 6'3". Only 2 of your returners look like decent 3-pt shooters. You lost the top player in the nation. Outside of her, you had no one else on the SEC all-conference first team, and only 1 player on the all-conference 2nd team. I just don't see top-10 written on that resume. However, I could be wrong. As to UConn's players, Williams could jump out of the building and didn't play like a 5'11" lady. Collier is an elite player, plus they had 6'6" Stevens who was also an elite player. Your players do not appear to be in the same league. Again, I could be wrong. I hope your team can do well this year. We need to play teams that can challenge our young players. If your basing last year on this year you guys are in the same boat as well. Losing Marie Gulich will hurt just as much as us losing A’ja. Where will the rebounds come from? Or scoring down low? Corosdale is good but I don’t see her as a banger or a big time rebounder. What I’m saying is you can’t base what happened last year to reflect what will happen this year. Athletically and speed wise very few teams will be able to match up against us. We have one of the top 5 point guards in the country as well as the #1 point guard for 2018. We have BCM from our championship season back and she shot 38% bta that year. Te’a Cooper shot 37% at UT as frosh and Nelly Perry who shot 40% bta at Clemson. Bianca Jackson shot 40% as a freshman as well and instead of slow, tall centers we have athletic forwards that can run the floor and make our team more uptempo. I think you all will have a very good team and I think we will be good as well. We both lack a dominant post so hopefully if we face off we will get a chance to see which team lacks more.

SCSpur,
Welcome to the OSU women's basketball message board. I have been a South Carolina women's basketball fan for years and have an appreciation for the talent level that the Gamecocks will be able to put on the floor during the upcoming '18-'19 season. I was present at the 2017 Sweet Sixteen in Stockton, California when the Gamecocks posted two wins and advanced to the Final Four prior to winning the national title.
When I saw several posters in this thread imply that South Carolina would not be a strong test for the OSU team this November, I cringed. I can share with you that there are a limited few OSU supporters who post regularly in this forum that really don't appear to follow women's basketball enough to be objective.
Should the Beavs match up with South Carolina in Vancouver this November and come away with a win, that win would certainly be a signature win that would bolster OSU's RPI and national rankings outlook going forward throughout the season. Anybody who believes that a Dawn Staley-coached team in '18-'19 won't be a legitimate Top 10 threat hasn't truly looked at who remains on the roster and who is available to play this season.
Looking forward to what could be a quality women's basketball matchup for both squads in late November in British Columbia.

A few things, scspur:
1. I would not call two of our centers, Andrea Aquino or Patricia Morris, slow. Morris appears to be very in shape from years of swimming and tennis. Aquino was malnourished from issues in New Jersey, but she is actually quite athletic for a 6’9 post.
2. IMO, We have probably a top 3 point guard in Slocum.
3. Didn’t see Destanni Henderson on the all-tournament FIBA team I saw Jazz on
4. We have 5 returning players, 6 including Slocum, (McWilliams, Goodman, Tudor, Pivec, and Corosdale) who shot 35% of better from BTA. And three of them shot over 40%
Don’t count us out just because we arent the quickest team around

OSU & SC comparison/discussion is getting stale. They will both be solid teams next year. In order for either to be Sweet 16, players (existing and new) are going to have to take a step function up in their games. I am confident that one or both teams will do so.

In order for either to be Sweet 16, players (existing and new) are going to have to take a step function up in their games. I am confident that one or both teams will do so. Pretty much all you have to do to get into the Sweet 16 is to be in the top 16 teams in the opinion of the people who rank the teams for the tournament, since then you get 2 home games against lesser ranked opponents. If you can take advantage of your home court, you're in. So it's not that hard. Unless you're Tennessee.... Uh, or Georgia, or Florida State, or Ohio State ... So since scspur thinks they've got a top-10 team, he must think they're a lock to get into the Sweet 16. OSU's fans are a bit less sure of getting in, since it pretty much depends on whether our new bigs can pick up the slack left behind by the loss of Gulich. So beating South Carolina in Vancouver would be a huge upset (according to scspur).

South Carolina is always gonna be good. I have a toad in my back yard named Henry. Related? But it was not a "dumb comment": Looking at their returning players, it seemed like a reasonable conclusion. What would be dumb would be saying that since they've been good in the past that they're sure to be good in the future, without even looking at who they've got coming back. That would be dumb. It would also be dumb to discount the loss of A'ja. Even with her, they were just #6 at the end of the season. A'ja would make the difference between being #6 and #26, and now she's gone. Not dumb.

A'ja was the difference between being #6 and being #12. #12 is the *floor* for tUSC. The way Staley recruits and coaches, she could bench her seniors for the entire season, any season, and still be a Sweet 16 team.
It's an early season game. On a neutral court. Against a team with serious history, laden with top recruits. It will be a test. If there is a betting line, the spread won't be more than a couple points either way - and most likely, we're the underdog.

Nice "one-way" logic... So where does that leave the Beavers? You don't mention other returners or newcomers, hence applying your "logic" losing two equally important assets also drops us to the mid-20s? No chance of a Pac12 title or tourney title since we didn't win it last year with Marie? Comparing last year to speculation about players/team comparisons in 2018-19 is true folly.

I had a little talk with Henry the toad. I did not understand everything but basically Henry favors South Carolina by 4 points due to the Beaver’s inexperience underneath. The toad did not take into account the fact that USC has to travel across 3 time zones, will become stiff from the cold rain and will be facing a crowd that presumably favors the Beavers.

"I have a toad in my back yard named Henry." Have your wife give me a kiss, and I'll turn into a prince. I'll bet South Carolina will finish at least 15 games over .500. To me, that's a pretty good team.

Well, conversations with toads aside, we also seem to know where the Beavers will be on Dec. 14 and 15th (and this is also tempting, but my kids will still be in school):
I believe this is the OSU sponsored Maui Jim Maui tournament.
Go Beavers!
