I figured that there would be a let down game sometime this year. I just hope this is the only one. The energy wasn't there and they just played tight. Shots were coming up short.
Did anyone else notice that the refs were not on the same page with each other? This crew had more discussions than most. I'm not saying they necessarily changed the game but many times their calls weren't the same.

The referees all weekend were not on the same page. I can’t wait for them to get pick slips.

Much easier to have a letdown game when you're missing one of the top players in the country and one that you basically build your offense around. The game didn't prove much other than how important it is for the Beavers to have Beers on the court.

Timea Gardiner is approaching stardom as an offensive player, is a quality rebounder, and is improving as a defensive player. There is much more to come from her.

Can't say enough about TVO's heart, and grit. That girl is just a flat out beast! And Gardiner is a stone cold killer. They did not give up, and I really think with Beers out there, you flip the score and we win by a few buckets. My fam went to the game. First one this season. We have kids sports that interfere usually.......what an awesome atmosphere!! I know there's been posts about how the program will fare being a WCC affiliate......one thing is for sure, the culture, and atmosphere at Gill will attract talent. The program is as strong as it's ever been.

The best thing to come out of this weekend IMO is to see the full arrival of Beast Mode by both TvO and Timea. We now have a trio that can carry this team (with Rae back) and lots of really solid complimentary and versatile players around them. Thats the type of team construct that has won championships at the highest level.
Even without Rae, we were a normal shooting night from Lily from a win (and many more similar “if only”. ) I really do like our chances if we face them again, as I believe the defensive performance on JuJu is repeatable.

Sat next to 2 obnoxiously loud USC fans. Towards the end of the game I ventured my guess that without Juju we would have won. Without both Beers and Juju we would have won. With both Juju and Beers playing we would have won.
Their reaction: “who’s Beers?” R E S P E C T. That’s what it means to me. I hope we can play them again straight up at the -PAC12 finals.

I think you are correct about 'Beast Mode'. Those girls have always wanted to win, now mentally they seem ready to take it up another level. Talia had some comments after the USC game about not losing the rebounding battle going forward. Timea stats: First 8 games of the Pac12 season 8.75ppg, 5rpg, 1.25 assist per game Last 6 games-16.33ppg, 7.33rpg, 1.25 assist per game (admittedly Raegan was out for most of 2 of those games, but it still shows that she can play at a very high level against the best the Pac has to offer).

Watkins shot 17-for-65 against us this year, 26%. That's abysmal, and a testament to our defense. I remember Kelsey Plum always struggled against us, Gabby Hanson would shut her down. Shes the antithesis to team sports they wont win big with ball hogs

The players have always said because they are so close, they can get on each other and hold each other accountable. Another example of Talia being a leader and speaking up in a firm yet positive way I thought. ..."'o boards in the 4th qtr killed us and that's unacceptable. I was really dissapointed in that from my team so I think just going forward I predict that's not going to happen again and I'm taking accountability for that and making sure that we have five box outs every possession and I dont want to lose the boards one more time this year." a bit later in the interview... "The leadership needs to come from everyone, I feel like there were definitely moments I felt like I wanted it more than my teammates and that's never what you want to feel. As a leader I feel like we needed to step up more in certain areas, rebounding, I'll say it again. Like I said, I predict that's not going to happen again and we learned our lesson there." Those aren't great quotes. Probably best kept in private. Player coaches are for pros, lead by example when you are dealing with your peers?
