Hopefully those who can will take advantage of this opportunity...especially those who strongly dislike closed practices. Not *every* practice is closed, so we have to take advantage of the open ones when they happen.

GO BEAVS!!
Hope everyone who can make it down will show up and have a great time this evening! The unofficial start of tailgating begins at 4pm... gates open at 6:30pm.
Maybe some even find some seats they want to try on for a game, or two, or mini plan, or ??

At least the crowd tripled or more by 7:45.
PS- scrimmage, but we're much deeper, more athletic, BETTER!

Definitely look better. We have 2 QBs that look the part, and linbacker Colletto might be tough to redshirt if there are a lot of tight games with short yardage scenarios.
The big guts on a few of our linemen are smaller this year, on the other hand Flemings has ballooned up to 141 pounds apparently. He's carrying that extra weight well.
Our return teams are either looking fairly sharp or our return coverage teams aren't. Hard to say which it is. I do think we've got at least two or three guys that can be threats to advance the ball on returns.
Only one injury of major note, either an ankle sprain or a instep got stepped on, and he seemed to be walking it off. I did notice a receiver or two limp a bit and one of the running backs got clotheslined/horse-collared and looked to be feeling it a bit on the sideline afterwards.
Getting excited for two weeks from now.

overheard before the scrimmage- coach addressing the team about not coming out slow like last year
"practice to take the first quarter. Come out and win the kick, the first series and the quarter The half is ours... "Spend yourself, dont save yourself... Trust your teammates to finish what you started... Trust us coaches to leverage you... win the first quarter and the third quarters and we will win you the fourth quarter. "
good stuff

" good stuff Very good stuff indeed. Not every coach needs to be or can be Knute Rockney but they all have to be able to motivate. What I like about this is that he's specific in what they need to do. This gives the players focus. Based on some of their comments, everyone is stepping up which leads to the trust CS references. We may not win many games but this season will be better than last season. Definitely looking forward to it and the future under Coach Smith.

Much better physicality on defense. The addition of Gumbs and Whittley will help as much with their attitude of accountability as much as on their play on the field . Expect your team mates to care and give it everything you got...demand it. We need that. Roberts is a tackling machine, and it was great to see Morris and Whittley out there after being out for some time this fall. If healthy for the most part, this defense will be much better in 2019 than 2018.
On offense,it looks to me we have two Pac-12 level quarterbacks. I have confidence both can execute a productive offense if the offensive line can do their job and protect and get a push. With Brendel...Lavaka...Eldridge...Cardasco...Kipper,Osu has a Pac-12 looking five up front. Three more offensive linemen need to be developed, with Levengood,Gray, and Nous at center the likely candidates. A huge weapon in 2019 will be a healthy Togiai at tight end. He is very talented, but has been battling injuries for three years. Finally healthy,he can give a defense nightmares. Our skill position players on offense are talented and deep. Just need to get them them the ball in space to move our offense. I'm optimistic...
