When you go all in you really go... Guess what you're as wrong on this as the last topic you ate so fanatical about. Your stats are cherry picking and meaningless. Cuz this team wasn't even close to either berth. Not even close? The team was in theory 18 possessions away from a 27 and 4 season. You really think one or two extra wins wouldn’t have put them in the NIT? With 9 one or two possession losses, this season literally could have swung a different way on one or two bounces of the ball on a rim. I’d say that’s pretty close. Not close would look like Robinson’s last year, 16 wins but the bulk of the losses by 10 points or more, that’s a LOT of changes in the way the ball bounced to get some extra wins. You're a nice fella on an internet message board - I really do mean that. But if Wayne Tinkle ever said The team was in theory 18 possessions away from a 27 and 4 season I'd probably smash something with something. But that's probably just me. that's all I got... carry on with the NIT debate.

I'd still like to hear baseba111's definition of "close", and what made this "not even close". As coach, Tinkle should never really reference the nine 1-2 possession games, but realistically they did exist, and realistically a 1-2 possession game is close. It's easy to be a tough guy and say any loss is unacceptable, but if you go around saying OSU wasn't even close to getting into the NIT it'd be interesting to here what IS close.

First, you're suppositions of winning all or most of those games is utter BS, because he DIDN'T! lol... being close to winning doesn't count. Ever. Second, stating certain wins could have meant tourney berths is also complete BS. There is no factual basis in that. Winning the Colorado game? Not only didn't happen, it wasn't close! My definition of "close" comes from the selection committees. OSU was never ever mentioned even at 14-7/6-3 as a "first 4 out"... the NIT committee never approached the ADs office with prelim talk of possible selection (according to two sources that know the system). In the ADs office was expected that 2 Pac12 tourney wins were needed to get a sure NIT berth, one would put them in final discussion among about 10 teams for 4 spots. So, even Buff win didn't assure a thing. NCAA was auto bid or nothing from day 1. So, your "close" is basic fantasy and revisionist. Win the games, earn your way. Otherwise it's not "close"!
