He never got much ink this year, but personally I was really impressed with Troy Claunch's play. Admittedly, his playing time was limited, but he seems pretty talented both behind the plate and with the bat.
My question..what's Troy's role next year? Obviously Adley's among the best nationally and will be our starting catcher in 2019. Claunch will spell him from time to time behind the plate. But if Troy is as good as he seems, my guess is that Pat will figure a way to get him into the lineup on a more frequent basis. Designated hitter maybe?

I was thinking DH. The OF will be adjusted a bit so I'm wondering if Malone gets some time in the OF. Also, if there are certain pitchers that do better with Claunch (thinking of a David Ross/Jon Lester duo), maybe. But, Adley is a rock behind the dish. Hard to argue with that athleticism for a young man of his size. But agree, would be nice to see more of Claunch's bat in the lineup. That's why we have the best coach in the nation to figure it all out...which he will.

We have an embarrassment of riches at the C position next year.
I don't know what Claunch's role will be, but his hitting and fielding this year looked like starting material.
We have an overload at 1B/DH/C, so hopefully one of those guys can make the transition to corner OF, or possibly 3B.
The coaches will figure it out. That's what the fall and pre-season are for.
