Can there be any doubt that Pat Casey is the best D1 baseball coach in the country? From very little to start with, he's built the nation's premier D1 baseball program, culminating in six trips to Omaha and three national championships over a 14 yr period. And all this while based in a "remote," small, cold-weather town in the northwest.
Perhaps even more amazing, he hasn't left for greener pastures even though some of the highest profile D1 programs in the country would have hired him in an instant had he been interested. Pat and his family love Corvallis.
Finally, the huge loyalty that Pat's former players show to him personally, as well as to his program, speaks volumes about OSU baseball's quality and integrity, both on and off the field.

Best coach in the country may be a little modest here.
From a sleepy and rainy hamlet in the PNW, in the last 14 seasons he has taken his team to six CWS, in five of those they have advanced to at least the national semis...with three titles.
In my opinion, when it's all said and done, that puts him on a very, very short list of the greatest college coach of all time. Those are staggering numbers.

Pat Casey is not only a great coach during the regular season but in the postseason as well. His teams just hate losing. Ralph Miller was a legendary coach for OSU but his teams often under achieved in the postseason. Casey's teams going through the losers bracket in 2006 and 2018 to win championships is unreal.

Sometime after the 06 & 07 Casey interviewed for the Notre Dame job. It was probably the only position that could lure him away from OSU. IIRC, he was thinking he was going to take the job, when he got home his son meet him at the front door said "we're not moving are we". Pat knew then and there that he was staying.

Jon is not handicapped, he is AUTISTIC. My sister (OSU "75") an Occupational Therapist for 40 years would tear you a new one for that.

Jon is not handicapped, he is AUTISTIC. My sister (OSU "75") an Occupational Therapist for 40 years would tear you a new one for that. He is both. Here is part of an article from the several years ago. "That first son of mine was going to be the starting quarterback and the starting shortstop," Casey says. Instead, Susan Casey gave birth to a little boy who never fully developed mentally, which doctors believe is the result of his brain being deprived of oxygen during birth. Pat and Susan have never been given an official diagnosis, but Jon struggles with cognitive skills and his speech. He's also a Type 1 diabetic, which means he probably will live with his parents for the rest of his life. www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2013/06/college_world_series_pat_casey.html

Ralphs teams played in single elimination tournaments. Just sayin'

IIRC, he was thinking he was going to take the job, when he got home his son meet him at the front door said "we're not moving are we". Pat knew then and there that he was staying. Case said that Jon came into the bedroom in the dark the night they came back from Indiana. That was the day that a huge bunch signs that read Corvallis Oregon Proud Home of The Casey Family with a 2006 national championship logo were posted all over on Harrison including on the bridge into town. From an old article. Keeping this man in Corvallis was easier, though, than it looked. Casey has the kind of coaching ethics and family values that made the decision easier. And on that night last week when he finally returned from Notre Dame and crawled into bed at a little after 2 a.m., you know how he felt when the bedroom door opened and his son, Jon, crept into the room. And you know when Jon whispered, 'Dad, I don't want to go,' that Pat's future probably was very clear. portlandtribune.com/component/content/article?id=99900
