Looks like we may go back to pitching and defense next season with the loss of at least four great bats. Based on what we saw this post season, I'm really liking how the pitching is going to shake out. Excellent outings by freshmen and veterans returning. too soon to talk about next season? Ok, but I still like the arms.

Ok, but I still like the arms. We only lose 1 pitcher next year, so that bodes well. Taylor, Rutschman, and Malone are the returning position player starters. Armstrong and Jones are likely starters. Claunch certainly looked like he could be a starter in 2019. I don't know if he has another position. I don't know if any of these guys could be capable of playing a corner OF spot. Casey hit well this year and could be in the mix. It's the 2 infield spots NOT manned by Armstrong that I don't know who will fill. If Claunch can play 3B, that would solve 2 problems.

The only thing I'll say about next year is this: Not much will be expected of them, much like nobody expected the 2007 squad to do much after losing all that star power. But just like the 2007 team belonged to Barney and Canham, the 2019 squad will be Adley's team. They will go as far as he wills them to, and I bet they will surprise a ton of people...
GO BEAVS!

I think a lot of people are forgetting about a certain red shirt by the name of Verburg who will probably be a weekend starter for us as well. The coffers aren't nearly as bare as they might feel like but then again not many teams can lose three first-round draft picks in position players and not feel it.

Will we see Chamberlain in the outfield? He hit .444 his junior year in HS, with 21 doubles, 12 triples, and five homers, kid can hit.

Depends on what you mean by "not much will be expected of them". OSU ranked #12 in the nation in ERA in 2018 and returns all but one of the pitchers. There will be a lot of turnover in position players but with Rutschman being the headliner, 2 other returning starters, and at least 2 others who appear to be capable guys already in the mix - I can't imagine OSU not being ranked to start next season. They probably won't win 50+ games again, but if there are 2 more D-I starting caliber infielders on the roster in 2019 ... it's still a pretty decent team.

I think we can safely say that history shows a couple guys will make THE LEAP next year and we just don't know who it is yet..
Some of my favorite leapers: Larnach, Adley, Dylan Davis, Tyler Smith, Jake Thompson, Matt Boyd from solid reliever to ace.. edit - I forgot Kwan. Freshman year Kwan.. man I thought I'd never see him hit it out of the infield...
My early front runner is Malone.

My early front runner is Malone. Logan Ice is one you forgot. It's a common thing for college players to make huge leaps. Conforto and KJ were a couple who hit from the day they stepped on campus, but many other players make that progression from meek Frosh to stud Junior.

As far as the infield goes, Gretler's brother might be ready to play. McMahan seemed to be the first off the bench after Armstrong but Ober and Zalesky saw some action if I remember correctly. Casey mentioned that he had some very talented kids on the team that just couldn't crack the starting lineup, we may be surprised how good they are.

Didn't Menazona, Foster, McGarry and Verberg redshirt?
