The umps yesterday sucked. No question about it.
Pat Casey will have the players ready to go today. If we don’t want the umps to screw us over, we need to hit the ball and keep it out of their hands. Arkansas pitched well, and we didn’t get the timely hits we needed.
This team is mentally tough, and I hope they come out pissed off today and ready to kick some butt.

The umps sucked? It was the correct call the player didn't slide or get out of the throwing lane. Interfering with the throw. Crying about one call when clearly the Beavers didn't hit or play defense well in the game. It's a Lame excuse to cry about one call when the team just needs to play better!

I would live with that if that was the actual explanation from the ump to Casey. But it wasn't. End of the day though, we didn't pitch well, made a huge error, had an enormous base running mistake, had 8 other innings where we could have gotten the job done at the plate but didn't. Great job by the Arkansas starter, tip your hat, move on.

I think there was a swing in momentum in those early innings that the Beavers didn’t recover from. Arkansas pitching held strong, and our bats were quiet.
In one of the pressers—I think it was after the second game against NC—one of the Beavs (Madrigal) said that hitting is contagious. Last night we saw the opposite of that truth. We need the bats to be confident again and to rack up double digits!

There was no interference. The runner in no way interfered with the fielder's ability to make the play. Also, you're conveniently not mentioning the phantom foul call, which prevented Steven Kwan scoring from 3rd.

"the runner ran into the fielder" Bull Sh-t! That rule needs to be changed anyway, I don't get how you are supposed to decide to slide, no matter where you are on the base path, ridiculous! It should be interpreted by the umpire if in sliding or "otherwise obstructing" is the runner is trying to interfere or run into the fielder. That should also be reviewable... getting a little to namby pamby by my standards.

I don't think they would have sent a gimpy Kwan - I think he would have stopped at 3rd. It would have been a really close play at the plate and Arkansas was playing good defense.

I think the ump thought SS pumped because of Adley "obstructing", but really he pumped because no one was covering 1st. and yeah the sliding part.. this is what would have happened if Adley slid 15 ft from the bag.

The rule explicitly provides an exception for not sliding:
Of course there is judgment involved, but IMHO the key is what I bolded. I am not sure how slowing down, ducking, and starting to head towards the pitchers mound could be seen as anything OTHER than trying to avoid contact or altering the play.
I didn't see the post game presser, did Casey mention it again?
Whatever, it's over now, and there is nothing that can be done about it, but beat the socks off the hogs the next to games!
Go Beavs!

Doesn't the runner have the right to the base path, throw or not? you see infielders get plowed over by base runners if they step into the base path to field a ball and it's interference on the fielder. Adley was ducking because he was about to get beaned by the relay to first. Pretty clear he was avoiding a fastball to the kisser and unfortunately with the pump fake and delay on the throw, his momentum and stumbling ultimately ended with contact with the ss after the ball was long gone.

This is sort of what I'm wondering. Why is the ss throwing right down the baseline anyway? In our quintessential double plays (Wong's for example), we're throwing from angles, not throwing straight down the path. But what do I know? It may have been the technically correct call to make, but it was a cheap-ass call. In the end, though, we have to overcome those calls and play the game.

Not arguing about the need to not make excuses, but it wasn’t one call. The fair ball called foul down the right field line and then overturned was a mess. Even with Kwan’s bad hamstring he scores easily after getting a great jump with two out. Grenier could have crawled safely into second on the play. The right fielder wasn’t even close to that ball. My son-in-law is a baseball coach and impartial, but said the inter- ference was a crap call. The ump’s explanation was worse than simply making an anal interpretation of a rule that is in place for player safety. At NO point did Rutschman make contact with the SS, who only double-clutched because nobody was covering first yet. At least be accurate if you’re going to give the umps a pass. How many controversial calls went our way in live play? You are right, though, just play your game and the minuetia takes care of itself. Very seldom do umps decide a game, and their is no conspiracy!

It may have been the technically correct call to make, but it was a cheap-ass call. In the end, though, we have to overcome those calls and play the game. It was a 3-6-? (scored 3-6-4) double play attempt. What it looked like to me is that Adley thought that the shortstop was going to go past the bag toward right field, so that he was not throwing directly down the basepath, so he veered to the infield. The shortstop, however, decided to try and stop at the bag to throw down the infield side of the basepath, probably under the belief that the first baseman was going to get back to cover, rather than the second baseman. Due to Adley mis-reading the situation and then clumsily attempting to avoid interference, he wound up running straight at the shortstop and created a potential interference situation. If he had just kept running toward second, it is clearly not interference. He just needed to keep running. At the end of the day, no one was covering first, so it was not interference. There was no intent, so it was not interference. In a different situation, the first base or home plate umpire would confer with the second base umpire to get the call right. However, both were occupied with runners. The third base umpire could have come over to confer, but he had a horrible angle on the whole thing. The right field umpire may have had the best view and could have helped out, since he was not otherwise occupied but did not. This is the kind of thing that you should have replay for. Interference is interference. That was not interference. Even if it was interference, it was a bush league, ticky-tack interference call. It would be like calling an illegal leaping penalty on a last second 63-yard field goal attempt. Let the kids play!
