There could be 1000 reasons. Lucky/unlucky bounces. Didn't match up well with those hitters. Tired arm. Just facing better players. Pressure got to them. Ump was squeezing them. They've really sucked this whole time, but finally stopped being lucky. Randomness. Ump hates OSU. No one is going to be able to pinpoint a reason for you. 2nd start vs UNC was an everything that could go wrong went wrong day. 2 swinging bunt base hits, a throwing error by Luke. If I recall, thought there was another hit that I thought Gretler should have gotten to. I thought he looked much better compared to UNC Game 1, hit his spots for the most part until the 3rd when the wheels fell off and got the quick hook. I'm actually not too concerned. Didn't that funky foul ball over first base (ahem) also happen with Luke? I think I also remember a chopper that sailed over Taylor's head, but I don't remember if that was also with Luke. Bottom line: I was encouraged by Luke's last start. The ball just didn't bounce his way. As for Bryce, I don't think that was a good matchup against either the Huskies or UNC. Washington had already seen him and knew what to expect, while UNC had pretty patient batters. My view with Bryce is that it's always a question of how many times through the lineup it takes to figure him out, and I think both of those teams weren't going to take long to do so. I am hopeful that Arkansas' aggressive hitting approach will play into Fehmel's hands, and he won't get deep into counts very often and this could look like the first LSU game last year all over again... GO BEAVS!

Ah, thanks for the correction. And you're right, I'm not sure he necessarily needed to get taken out so early. He had just retired the last inning in order, and only faced one batter before he was pulled, and I think he could have gone longer. Yeskie must have seen something he didn't like, or they figured he got them long enough to let the bullpen handle the rest so he'd be available in future games.

FWIW, Luke's now apparently getting some interest from the KC Royals. Not if Canzano and Brenda can help it. F*** Canzano. Yellow journalism rides again.

Baseball is baseball. Anyone can have a bad outing or two at any time. Clayton Kershaw and Max Scherzer have had bad outings. Sandy Koufax and Bob Gibson had bad days, (although I would take either one on their worst day)… Luke could come back and have a great outing, the bugs and jitters should be gone now. Bryce has to have great command as he really doesn't have the stuff. If he knows the strike zone he is alright, if not he will get pummeled! Luke can be off a bit and still get by on his stuff. I hope both have great games and we don't have to worry about Thursday. GO BEAVS!!!

FWIW, Luke's now apparently getting some interest from the KC Royals. Maybe some relief there for him and if umps would stop shifting strike zone would be a big help. Luke's control is (usually) good enough that he paints corners and gets lots of strike calls. I think that shifting strike zones effect his psyche more than most because he is usually so precise. Not especially worried about Fehmel-- he's a down and dirty competitor and usually does well against SEC "he-man" baseball. The other team that I hear is expressing interest in Heimlich is the Orioles. I agree with you, grackle. The umpiring on Wednesday was very bad. It went both ways at home, but Oregon State got stuck with the worst call at first. I am waiting for Luke to get a West Coast umpire. Fehm's balls are a lot harder to pick up at night, and they do not carry as far. I am hoping that he rounds into form tomorrow.

I think today Luke regresses to the mean. He has scuffled the last two outings, but history tells us that those outings were the anomaly, not the norm. History tells us that we can count on Luke giving up less than 3 earned runs per game, and working through the 7th. With the way we're swinging the bats, if Luke can come anywhere close to his usual production, I like our chances.

I have heard that at least two teams are interested this year. I see a lot more about the Royals being more interested. But I believe that the Orioles have also expressed interest this year. Of course, that just might be Luke trying to light a fire under the Royals.

Orioles w Cadyn in the minor league org would be ideal. Of the several teammates who posted support for Luke after the draft (on Twitter), none were nearly as strong as Cadyn’s post. He (Cadyn) even got flamed by some jerk, warning him of ruining his own good name...to which Cadyn essentially replied: yada yada yada.

If the Orioles were interested last year, they are probably interested this year. I figure the big market teams will shy away from him. I figure that the ideal landing spot for Luke is a small market moneyball team like a Baltimore or a Kansas City or maybe a complete change of scenery team, like in a Toronto.
