i think NC had a better pitching staff, but Arkansas is better in every other aspect. This is definately the 2 best teams playing this year. I hoped Florida could take a game, but they just didn’t seem the same after the middle of the year.

North Carolina had more talent than the 06 Beavers, but not the sheer will to win the Beavs did. Beavers have the most talent this year (if our top two starters get it together - Able could now be a Friday night starter now for anyone). Arkansas has better position players than NC, but they have to prove they have the same focus we've got - no one took all three games of any series from us this year.
Still, I think that overall, Arkansas 2018 tops North Carolina 2006, but, and is big but, if Bryce and Luke can overcome the mental, this is now all around the best Beaver team in history. Couldn't quite have said that a month ago.

Not so sure UNC was better than us. Every starter on the 2006 team except John Wallace played some level of pro baseball. Six reached the majors.
C: Canham (AAA) 1B: Rowe (short A, then retired, would have played higher). 2B: Kunda, mostly A, did play briefly in triple-A. SS: Barney, MLB. 3B: McFeely, low-A. LF: Cole Gillespie, MLB CF: Tyler Graham, MLB. RF: John Wallace, no pro. SP: Dallas Buck, AA SP: Jonah Nickerson, AA SP: Anton Maxwell, low A. SP: Daniel Turpen, AAA SP: Joe Paterson, MLB SP: Mike Stutes, MLB RP: Kevin Gunderson, AAA RP: Eddie Kunz, MLB. RP: Jon Koller, Rookie League IF: Lonnie Lechelt, short-season A OF: Mike Lissman, low A
That was one great team.

The game 3 pinch hitter who put the ball in play on UNC's infamous/heaven-sent error at first that scored our Championship-winning run. I'll always have a place in my OSU heart for Ryan Gipson.

And they won.

I didn't forget Ryan, but he did not play affiliated baseball after leaving OSU. He has done an absolutely outstanding job of resurrecting the Linn-Benton baseball program, both on the field and facilities-wise.
And that video shows again how the second baseman has taken the rap for an absolute disaster of a play by the first baseman. You should almost never substitute offense for defense in an important game, which Carolina did by putting an inexperienced guy at 1B in an attempt to get another bat in the lineup.

Have never blamed the NC 2nd baseman for that, but my "respect" for their coach has always been high after the result of that substitution. Their catcher was no Adley.

RP: Jon Koller, Rookie LeagueIF: Lonnie Lechelt, short-season AOF: Mike Lissman, low A That was one great team. Neither Koller, Lechelt, nor Maxwell appeared against North Carolina, so I am not counting them. What follows only includes players that appeared for both teams: 2006 North Carolina: 5 players on the roster reached MLB: Bard, Carignan, Federowicz, Miller, and Warren. 5 players on the roster reached AAA: Horton, Johnson, Shelton, Spencer, and Woodard. 2 players on the roster reached AA: Fronk and Hovis. 3 players on the roster reached A+: Cox, Trice, and Williams.
2006 Oregon State:
6 players on the roster reached MLB: Barney, Gillespie, Graham, Kunz, Paterson, and Stutes. 4 players on the roster reached AAA: Canham, Gunderson, Kunda, and Turpen. 2 players on the roster reached AA: Buck and Nickerson. 2 players on the roster reached A: Lissman and McFeely. 1 player on the roster played a year of rookie ball: Rowe. 1 player on the roster played multiple years of independent ball: Gipson.
Miller and Warren are still in the Majors. Federowicz is still in AAA. I do not believe that any player from the 2006 Oregon State team is still playing professional baseball.
C/1B: Tim Federowicz (MLB) 1B/3B: Chad Flack (Flack suffered a career-ending injury his senior season. No Pro.) 2B/3B: Garrett Gore (Hit ninth in the order. All glove and no bat. Spencer pinch hit for Gore in the 5th inning of game 3 and struck out looking. Steed was the defensive replacement who made the error. No Pro.) SS: Josh Horton (AAA) 3B: Reid Fronk (AA) LF: Jay Cox (A+) CF: Mike Cavasinni (Cavasinni was hurt in between the 2007 and 2008 seasons and had to redshirt in 2008. He was not the same player after that. No Pro.) RF: Seth Williams (A+) C: Benji Johnson (AAA) 1B: Kyle Shelton (AAA) 2B: Bryan Steed (No Pro) LF/CF: Matt Spencer (AAA) SP: Andrew Miller (MLB) SP: Robert Woodard (AAA) SP: Daniel Bard (MLB) RP: Matt Danford (No Pro) RP: Jonathan Hovis (AA) RP: Adam Warren (MLB) RP: Tyler Trice (A+) CP: Andrew Carignan (MLB)
C: Mitch Canham (AAA) 1B: Bill Rowe (Rookie) 2B: Chris Kunda (AAA) SS: Darwin Barney (MLB) 3B: Shea McFeely (A) LF: Cole Gillespie (MLB) CF: Tyler Graham (MLB) RF: John Wallace (No Pro) 2B: Ryan Gipson (Played a year in Rockford and a year in Yuma. He was an assistant at Dixie State before taking over as manager of Linn-Benton in 2013.) OF: Mike Lissman (A) OF: Scott Santschi (No Pro) OF: Koa Kahalehoe (No Pro) SP: Dallas Buck (AA) SP: Mike Stutes (MLB) SP: Jonah Nickerson (AA) RP: Joe Paterson (MLB) RP: Eddie Kunz (MLB) RP: Daniel Turpen (AAA) CP: Kevin Gunderson (AAA)
