JAKE PFENNIGS RHP 6-7 190 POST FALLS, ID. HS
Jake Pfennigs is a 6’7”, 190 pound LHP/1B from Post Falls, Idaho HS. A multi-sport athlete, Pfennigs played WR in Football, is a two-time Idaho 5A all State hoops star and for 2017-’18, was named Idaho’s “Gatorade Player of the Year” in Basketball. Pfennigs is a power pitcher that sits on an 89-90 mph fastball but will ratchet it up to 92-93 when needed. He has a 3-pitch mix with a slider and change-up being his secondary pitches. He played in a high school program that distributes innings over a season among 5 or 6 pitchers, with all being limited to strict pitch counts. In 3 years of varsity competition, Jake Pfennigs never exceeded 40 innings in a single season. Pfennigs is an experienced pitcher at the highest levels of summer baseball competition. Has pitched tournament ball for Baseball NW, Area Code games, and USA Baseball 17U national team.
Considered to have a high ceiling with additional physical growth, strength, and refinement of both secondary pitches. Projected by some to be drafted as early as the 10-12th round of the June draft, he slipped to the 7th pick of the 35th round by the San Diego Padres after setting a minimum signing bonus figure of $1.5 million. Committed to Arizona State his Sophomore year before receiving an offer from Oregon State and flipping to the Beavers. The highest ranked Beaver recruit by Baseball America and Perfect Game.
