Who, apparently, just doesn't seem to get it about the Beavs. Get a load of these gems from tonight's MSU starter (Ethan Small) immediately after his team's 12-2 shellacking by the Beavs:
"....I don’t think [OSU is] anything incredibly special....Fill the zone up, throw off-speed for strikes and just get them out." (from Jackson [Miss] Clarion-Ledger) -------------------------
Not real smart Ethan -- you might just be whistling past the graveyard here, but it's probably not a great idea to badmouth the team that just kicked the snot out of your teammates, and do it just before you have to face them. Brilliant.
Thus, IMO, demonstrating, once again that while the SEC may well have the most individual talent top to bottom, they sure don't seem to have the most brains. Many do, however, compensate for that by having an abundance of hubris and arrogance. And BTW, most (all?) of their teams also have NO IDEA when to utilize complicated concepts(!?) like the short game, batting zone discipline, etc. Can't be bothered with that sissy "West Coast baseball" I suppose.

That would worry me as if he has something up his sleeve. He hasn't been watching Oregon State eat pitching up all year like we have.

I don’t fault any pitcher for confidence and believing he’s going to be successful. “Fill the zone up, throw off-speed for strikes and just get them out." Easier said than done..

Ethan, could, for example, do something REALLY radical and just keep his mouth shut until AFTER he's proven that the Beavs are "nothing special."
And anyway, do you EVER hear OSU pitchers mouthing off before a game with "....they're nothing special" ?? Not on a Casey-coached team you don't.

I don’t think this OSU team requires any “extra” motivation. Maybe the fans do, but not the team.

You conveniently forgot to include the "incredible" part in the "nothing special". Takes it to a whole different level me thinks. I see nothing wrong or stupid with what he said. Much ado about nothing.

I'm pretty sure Larnach said something along the lines in the ESPN MSU post-game interview that they weren't going to lose again. Maybe I misheard, but it sounds like similar bulletin board material, both of which is a non-issue. I fully expect both teams to fully believe in themselves.
I have a cousin that pitched against Conforto. I asked him how he was going to pitch him before hand, and he said he was just going to go straight after him with his best stuff, believe he could get him out. Conforto subsequently took him yard in the first AB. In another words, a kid doesn't believe they can can do it, they are already beat and shouldn't be out there. I'm sure Small believes his best stuff can shut us down. I don't believe it, but I absolutely expect him to believe that.

"....I don’t think [Ethan Small is] anything incredibly special....Extend the count, be selective and don't fall for the off-speed stuff out of the zone and be patient, just make contact and base hits." (from Benny's House Dugout board, contributing member handle "Beaverchew")

Not surprising at all. Just go to the Arkansas message board and you will see how much respect is given to OSU. We're not in the SEC therefore we haven't seen anything like what we will see against Smalls or basically any pitcher for Arkansas if we hopefully get to face them. This guy is only parroting the hubris of an entire portion of the country.
