Does Eisert get a look as a starter? I think Gambrell could be an inning eater. Both have good stuff and do not depend on a consistent strike zone. Has Gambrell appeared in a game in the last six weeks? There have been plenty of times to get him in, I don't get it.

That's definitely a possibility. I believe there was a quick TV shot of him running into the pen from the dugout in game 3 and I thought I saw him actually throwing in the pen in game 2. Could be mistaken...

He had plenty of chances to prove he could consistently find the strike zone as our Sunday starter and it just didn't happen. There didn't appear to be any physical problem, he just did not look comfortable out there. I'd be surprised if they would roll him out in this environment.

What I’ve learned from watching Casey over the years is that his circle of trust when it comes to pitchers is extremely small, especially in the postseason. Usually if he’s a guy that will be relied upon in Omaha, Casey tries to get them some run in Regionals, Super Regionals, or early on in the CWS. Have them face even a couple batters to get some confidence, and he’ll typically do it first in a low-pressure situation before he throws them into the fire. He would rather go back to a guy he trusts on short rest or even in an unusual role (think Rasmussen shutting down Fullerton in the 9th last year, or Dallas Buck even pitching some innings of relief in ‘06) than roll the dice on someone who hasn’t proven themselves yet on the big stage.
When Chamberlain came in against Minnesota and dominated, I knew that meant he’d be a big part of the equation here in Omaha. Although he was warming up in the bullpen, Gambrell never actually made it into a game. And he didn’t pitch in the Regionals or Super Regionals either. As of right now, that tells me he’s not under starting consideration at this point in time. Based on him warming up, it does seem like Casey and Yeskie would like to get him into a game and see what he’s got. But I’ll bet he’ll be used in a lower-pressure situation first if at all possible, probably have a fairly quick hook if things go south, and won’t be used as a starter until/unless that happens. Needs to play his way into the postseason circle of trust first.

Pearce Tweedt? anything beyond that and it means extra innings game. Heart attack time.

Game on the line, I think they'll go back to Jake again before Tweedt/Britton/Gambrell, etc. Ride those horses.

It's tempting to think of this as a two game series and save Jake for tomorrow but it's not like that. it is odd that a guy who is 5-1 with 4.4 ERA and 57 strikeouts wouldnt be in the mix at this point. speculating about physical problems is lame. whoops.

He's not hurt, but he has had control issues during his last few appearances. We can not give up free base runners. That is how we lost game #1.

Not odd at all if you continue along that stat line. 57 innings, 57 K's (good), 53 hits, 29 walks, 6 HBP. That's 88 base runners in 57 innings. (bad + even worse 2nd half of season vs 1st half). PC and patience aren't in the same zip code this time of year.

All I know, is that come post season, guys have stepped up and surprised us. If Bryce can get an umpire with a real strike zone instead of 12 inches wide and waist high, and the defense is finally getting used to the field, it will be tough to beat us, a lot tougher than it already has been.

I see the beavs making that adjustment today and turning double plays, getting around the outfield better etc. After a week they should be used to the hard field and big dimensions.
