For the fun of it a collection of ideas and observations on Corosdale's first year in the program and what might happen in her 2nd year....
Taya was the highest rated recruit in OSU WBB history at the time of her signing.....Rated 27th best in the country by one rating service...I don't think anyone expected Taya to be a franchise player, but the expectations were that she would be very good, probably start as a freshman, and make for real contributions to the team's success.
She performed pretty much as predicted, becoming a starter in December after Maddie Washington started the first several preseason games.
In her rookie season Taya was not a splashy player. She played within her game, kept her errors low, ran the patterns and set the screens required of a wing/forward. She is a good system player playing in very good system program.
Strengths: In her first season Corosdale proved to be a good defender - not great. A good rebounder - not great. I think everyone in the program expects her rebounding game to improve significantly next season when she will be stronger, more assertive, and simply because far more will be demanded of her. ("Gulich gone - those boards are now yours!")
She has long arms and a very quick pass release - she outlets rebounds and unloads passes faster than anyone on the team. She has stamina, is superbly conditioned (she played 40 minutes against either Tennessee or Baylor, which is remarkable for a Frosh in her first NCAA post season...)
Expectations for next season: HIGH. Quite high.
Corosdale is already a premier 3 point shooter under the right conditions, namely when she is squared and ready for her incoming pass. She is not Kat Tudor running off screens to get open beyond the arc. But she is a good shooter and that skill will be utilized far more next season than last.
Taya must greatly improve her dribble penetration skills - especially from free throw line extended into the paint. Even more difficult she must learn to finish when she finally gets to the paint. Thus far she has not demonstrated the ability to finish once she arrives - so to speak. If she develops this skill set in the off season she will be a total hand full. Indeed, a star in the making...If she does not mature impressively in her attack game, the Beavs will have point production problems at the forward position. My guess is that this has been made crystal clear to her in one way or another.
Coach Rueck seems VERY high on Corosdale's future at OSU. I think he sees a lot of "step-up" in her game, which is to say she is the kind of player who can up her performance as the situation demands it. I think Coach believes she will make the transition from solid role player to prime time performer. If he's right, things are looking bright for 2018-19.
Starting 5 next season: IF Taya makes great strides in her game; IF she becomes the rebounder coach expects; IF she elevates as a versatile scorer the way Coach hopes, his coaching decisions will be even tougher than everyone knows. Why? Because if Corosdale arrives in December with a genuinely elevated game Coach will have no choice but to consider starting a 3 forward combo of Corosdale, Katie Mac and Pivec. With a 3 guard rotation of Slocum, Tudor & Goodman. Corosdale at 6'3, McWilliams at a lanky 6'2, and a muscular Pivec make a genuinely impressive front line....
At any rate, a few ideas about Beaver WBB to munch on during the dog days of Summer...
GO BEAVS !!🏀

Great observations on Taya, 411500 ! I actually think Taya has the highest untapped potential among all of the returning Beavers. I base this on the progress she made throughout the season - and by how the big games did not daunt her. I think while she is a good and perhaps not great rebounder yet, some of that is hidden by how the Beavers crash the boards. What I really liked toward the end of the season is how she was really putting a body on an opposing player and taking them completely out of the play - watch the tournament games, you will see several times how she bodies the opponent right out of bounds under the basket. And this is someone (as you note) who could come back stronger. I also recall that she nursed an injured shoulder much of the season, which probably had an adverse effect on her production. The other thing that completely impresses me about Taya is her demeanor - she is as steady as they come, and you would be hard pressed to determine the game situation from her expression. That kind of calmness will really pay off for us when there are lots of youngsters around her requiring a steadying presence, kind of like Marie was for us this year. I do agree that she needs to develop a good first step with a dribble drive finishing at the basket, especially since she is someone who will be able to pump fake a lot of perimeter defenders who must respect her three point prowess. The other thing she could emulate Marie on more would be to speed down the court on change of possession - I spent much of the season wondering if her long, loping stride down the court was just that or was it deceptively fast, while Marie left no doubt on her way down the court. Taya definitely has the ingredients to becoming a consistent 12 point/8 rebound kind of player. As an aside, I like your projected rotation, but I do think our new bigs will get minutes unless they are completely lost out there, and I also think Simmons is going to be an immediate contributor and will influence the rotation given a chance. Go Beavers!

Thanks 411500. I watched the Taya video, and was impressed to see a few of her inside moves that we didn't see much of during the season. It's obvious from the video that she is a good passer and 3 point shooter, but the most encouraging part to see was seeing her inside. We didn't see a lot of it last season and we didn't need to with Marie in there. I would expect we will need more from Taya on the inside this coming season. I don't know how ready she is, but at least this video showed me that she does have some inside game, and this is probably the offseason where that inside game really needs to develop. Taya is really going to be fun to watch the next three years, and is going to be tough for other teams to contend with.

I'm with you rmancarl....Thinking about the growth and improvement we might see next season from Taya, Mik, Kat, Aleah, Katie Mac and others is REALLY exciting. With Simmons & Slocum joining the roster, and 2 new big Bigs, the amount of 1st & 2nd year talent on this team is downright awesome. Coach is building something remarkable....... GO BEAVS !!

The latest word that I have heard about Taya's ability to begin basketball-related workouts is September. She had surgery on her shoulder during May.

I hope she has been able to keep up her general fitness level. She played a lot of minutes at the end of last season and I suspect she will be asked to again this year.
