Drew is far better today. Just a couple of mistake pitches have hurt. KState pitcher isn't overpowering by any means, but he is down and changes speed decently. Losing command just a bit now.

TOp 7, we've got 2 on, no outs and just chased the starter.. Need to get a couple across here. That run KState scored in the 5th could turn out to be huge.. Walk, sac, HBP, wild pitch, infield single.

King and Gillette with 2 run singles. Nice little 2 out rally and the good guys pull ahead 4-3 going to bottom 7.

1 on, 2 out bottom of 7. Fehmel in for Rasmussen...
Overall, a lot better than his first start - and better competition, but still has some work to do. Let the bottom of the order get to him a couple of times and got the unhappy Pat Casey mound visit today. The one where the infielders stay away so they can have some one on one time.. lol
6.2, 6 hits, 3 ER 7 K/2 BB 1 HBP. 94 pitches / 60 strikes.

Top 8. Morrison K, KJ single, Jack Anderson single. 1st and 3rd, 1 out. Pitching Change.
Jack Anderson early leader in the annual "OK, didn't see that coming" sweepstakes. Seems to be a guy who comes out of nowhere every year. Nice couple of games for Jack so far.
Grenier walks, Ice Fielders choice, bases loaded 2 outs.
Hamilton pinch hit bases clearing TRIPLE. BOOM. 7-5 Beavs.

This team is so opposite of last year. Last year, starting pitching...sparkling. Bullpen not so much. This year the Bullpen has performed a bit better and the starting pitching (less Heimlich) has struggled. The batting sure likes to get these late rallies going.

I thought our pitching was supposed to be a strength this year? Doesn't look that way at all so far.

As I said in a different post, I believe that this is the weakest returning staff that we have had in several years. This was by far my biggest concern coming into the season. Drew's stats last year do not measure up to what we had coming back for our Friday starter in years past.
That being said, I still believe their is potential. Assuming we can get Hickey back healthy soon and maybe a guy like Martinek (suspension/coming off surgery) and possibly another surprise. Thompson needs to perform much better in his next couple of starts or Casey may move on.
Lots of talent on the field and at the plate which is good news/bad news for Casey. Tough to get all of that talent enough playing time to keep every buddy happy but I'm sure he will figure it out. The talent should also help ease the pressure on the pitching staff which hopefully will help them with confidence and improvement.
Great start and let's keep it rolling!
