So he would sit this year and be a replacement for G next year? Stats aren't overwhelming, but projecting his stats from last year over 18 minutes would be approximately 8 ppg, 4 rpg, 1 bpg, and 1 apg. If he was a fan favorite at BYU, probably means he's high energy or that he was pretty bad and they liked seeing him during scrub time -- hopefully the former.

Also went on a mission- so if you factor that + sitting a year, by my count, he'll be 33 years old by the time he's a senior. #math

Dastrup will have to sit out a year before playing at Oregon State unfortunately. Once he is eligible he will be a huge addition to a front-court that will miss Drew Eubanks. In all honesty, Payton Dastrup was one of BYU’s most-talented players and his lack of playing time was baffling. Coach Rose likes to play back to the basket big-man and Dastrup didn’t exactly fit the mold. He isn’t a traditional pick-and-roll big man, instead he likes to hit three’s and play next to a more traditional big, Welcome to Corvallis Payton Dastrup! www.buildingthedam.com/2018/6/25/17504934/payton-dastrup-commits-to-oregon-state-beavers-basketball-byu-cougars-wayne-tinkle

I’m thinking he’s Tres’s replacement after the upcoming season.

Just read the OregonAlive article on his transfer and they are hoping to get a waiver to allow him to play this year. Not sure why that would be available to him, but I'm guessing something to do with his mission time and how old he is. Would be nice to have him his year.

Maybe he finally started doubting that Joseph Smith Jr the practitioner of folk magic really saw the golden tablets of Moroni. Seems like a religious objection with the school would give any BYU athlete a way out....
