Danny Moran.
Luke never pitches this year without that article. So without it, Luke never becomes all time strikeout leader, wins leader, etc. Never wins any of the accolades he got this season. Until Abel's performance in the Regionals, nobody was sure who our Sunday guy was. Now add Saturday to that. Bullpen gets used a lot more, more pressure put on every at bat......season probably looks vastly different without Luke.
Luke was likely a second round draft pick last year, with a guaranteed signing bonus of somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.5M. So yes, he was cost a significant chunk of change. But statistically, only about half of all second rounders ever make the major leagues. Luke making the majors was still a coin flip.
Plus, from listening to the Joe Beaver Show, Luke is now one of the most beloved OSU athletes of all time. Dave from Tumwater called him the Jackie Robinson of juvenile adjudicants, a lady calling today talked about him looking at her in the stands as he walked off the Coleman Field mound for the last time with the same reverence people use to tell stories about their brush encounters with the Beatles or the U.S. President (well, not the current one). He'll never buy another meal in Corvallis, especially if we bring home a trophy from Omaha.

I'll consider myself lucky that there wasn't a "Fna" at the end of that.

The little known 4th rule of Fight Club was to never use radio show callers as an accurate snapshot of the rest of the population.

He got a standing ovation as he walked off the mound from 4,000+ on Friday. Without Moran, he's treated similarly to Wetzler, Moore, Nickerson, Buck, etc. in his last outing. No way he's as beloved as he is right now.

The sports radio crack was probably prompted by my years of listening to annoying Rome Clones, the occasional/delusional Blazer super fan who though they could trade Damon Stoudamire and a 1st round pick for in-his-prime Kobe with a splash of Dave from Tumwater thrown in.

Not a matter of being lucky... that kid has been unfairly attacked and verbally abused since the 'moron' article. I am not going to jump on anyone until I actually have just a sliver of facts to form an opinion. I have none, so, I am all in on recognizing him for his citizenship, commitment to school and athletic achievements since the reported incident. These are patterns that 'most' of our population cannot live by at any point in their lives. Luke deserves all of the recognition, and more, that he is not just receiving, but that he is EARNING. I fully expect that there is at least one GM, with some common sense out there, that will find a way for Luke to earn what he deserves. I certainly hope so. It is amazing to me that we have become such a divided society that you can only see black and white. The fact is, there are numerous situations - especially involving other people, that require a broader look and interpretation as well as information from numerous sources.. Don't write anyone off until you know the facts and circumstances..Luke has demonstrated real courage throughout this entire mess. Go Luke Go Beavers....

I'll consider myself lucky that there wasn't a "Fna" at the end of that. Yeah, I was expecting that as the coup de grace.

This is a stupid post and an insult to all the great players on this team that have achieved such great success this year. This can't be deleted fast enough.
(And to your point...if Luke isn't here this year, then the favorite to fill out the starting rotation is probably Mulholland or Eisert, I think, and I have no doubt they would grow in ability and maturity over the year under Yeskie's tutelage. And with this lineup, I'm betting either one still gets a big chunk of wins. Maybe 2 or 3 less overall, but we still make the playoffs and still give heartburn to every pitcher we face in the postseason...).
GO BEAVS!

Nothing valuable or heroic about that.

How about whoever it was that kept them glued together during Nick's absence? I didn't get to follow all the games, so I'll throw out some names--Gretler, Grenier, Larnach, or Rutschman. Adley became Clutchman during that spell, so I'll nominate him. I'm not trying to minimize Luke's efforts, but after all, he played just one game a week, and we sort of expected him to perform as he did. Stepping up to fill Nick's leadership on the field was essential, and I think Adley did that well.
