Inconsistent often times. And, I ni uncertain terms, did not tonight sort of prove that? Not too many outings as a group came close to matching that...

Two weeks ago even Casey said this team is short in the bullpen this year. But I think Chamberlain has had some appearances recently that show he is right there with Jake and Eisert. Maybe the real problem is no righties in the bullpen have looked as good as the lefties. When you add up the expected innings you get from all of the pitchers combined it's enough. Fehmel and Luke are going to keep the score down even on their worst days enough for the pen to not get too stretched. It seems to be working.

Big difference tonight... for whatever reason... the pen threw strikes. And they threw them with multiple pitches. It was That was rare as this season progressed. And, Chamberlain was as balanced in his delivery as I've seen him maybe all season. There is no doubt there is talent in the pen. Mechanics with some are very shaky. I'm thinking immaturity/ability to have solid focus is the main culprit with a couple. They mature or PC/NY will weed them out and find guys who will. But, as good as game as it was both teams dodged bullets/didn't take advantage of ops to open the game up. We don't have this conversation if the bullet Coffey hit barely foul passed 1B with 2 on in the B7 is 3 inches left and both runners score. But, that's baseball. Sometimes it's more about what didn't happen versus what did.

Sometimes it's more about what didn't happen versus what did. from the tribune article ..Chamberlain was "effectively wild," said Minnesota third baseman Micah Coffee. "He had a good fastball that would run in on guys and kept you on your toes. You couldn't predict where he was going with it. He had a breaking ball that kept you off balance. He did a good enough job of mixing those two pitches. He was tough."

I did get a little tired of the booth gushing about their closer /reliever as if he is already the next Mariano Rivera. Granted the kid had some filthy stuff - but hearing about his greatness over and over and over was a little rough. Bryce held it together and Chamberlain was money. mullholland - lights out if it werent for the (non) hit batsmen. I hope we can see that kind of performance out of the pen going forward. Or even better.....don’t need the pen. Ha!
