I might be reading too much into body language, but of the four photos, OSU is only one where she's not showing a toothy smile. So that's a good thing. Serious. Game face. Or she is saving the toothy smile picture of her in Beaver garb for her commitment announcement. Go Beavers!

Well, I believe there are 5 Mormon wards in Corvallis, so that could be covered too I read comments by Brynna Maxwell from Gig Harbor, WA who just committed to Utah 4 days ago. She really gushes about the Utah campus: “It’s beautiful,” she said. “It’s surrounded by mountains. It’s big but doesn’t feel too big. It’s just a great campus. And they just got new facilities, which are probably the best in the Pac-12.” Maxwell's commitment to Utah might even discourage Kemery a little bit from choosing Utah (well we can only hope!), as Maxwell's game is similar to hers (both are combo guards with comparable high school junior bball stats)
Well, this just shows you that location, campus, and facilities ARE important to recruits (at least some). OSU must counter with highlights of its nice campus, promote that it too has arguably among the best practice facilities in the Pac, praise the history and character of Gill, tout the location of Corvallis (being just 1 hour from the beautiful coast, 1.5 hours from cosmopolitan Portland, 2 hours to the nearest ski resort, and situated in the "heart" of the diverse, pastoral, scenic Willamette Valley that has a thriving vineyard and wine industry, is near forests, mountains, and wilderness areas, etc., and has a climate much milder than Salt Lake City ), and explain that OSU has led and continues to LEAD THE PAC-12 IN WBB ATTENDANCE! I am sure the coaches do this!
USC (#11 / 940), UW (#10 / 1952) and Utah (#8 / 1689) are great if you want to play in front of empty seats. Go go to OSU (#1 / 4989) if you want to play and win in front of big, loud, supportive crowds. (PAC 12 attendance ranking / Ave ‘18 announced home attendance)

The attendance numbers are even more intriguing when you consider metropolitan size the school is located in. Salt Lake City is well over a million, Seattle is close to four million, and Los Angeles is larger than the other three put together.
She is from a city located within the SLC metro area so Utah would definitely be a home town school.
So she can either go to a school in metro areas significantly larger than home, stay at home, or go to a school in a much smaller population center (with a much larger and raucous fan base).
Interesting choice, I look forward to hearing her decision and any reasoning she might give for it.

One could probably add Marie Gulich (Cologne, ~1 million population, quoted in her OSU bio as identifying her "Favorite thing about Corvallis is that it’s a college town") and Maddie (Las Vegas) to that list of thriving players on our roster from major metropolitan areas. As believeinthebeavs said, will be interesting to hear her rationale for her selection among her "final 4". Go Beavers!

[ Funny...I’ve been to all of the campuses in the PAC 12, and IMO, Utah’s might be the LEAST beautiful (along with Arizona’s, and the urban jungle around USC) I realize that this is in the eye of the beholder. While I like mountains, the Cascades are just a lot more appealing to me, and those campuses seem thirsty and sparse in comparison with the lush green of our campus. Since Kemery is from a suburb of Salt Lake, she probably is used to and drawn to a more dry and brown landscape. As for the Mormon draw, some people just assume that if you are from the Utah Valley, you must be LDS. While 50% of the population of Salt Lake is Mormon, something like 95% of the people an hour south (Provo, etc.) are LDS. Obviously, if the school was BYU that we’re competing with and she was from that area, religious considerations would likely give an enormous edge to the Cougars in recruiting her.

Thanks for the notice and link. Interesting that the author touts UoW's attendance during Kelsey Plum's heyday: " the draw of a fan base who turned out in record numbers for the Kelsey Plum led Huskies"....yet OSU has had a much higher attendance than UofW in recent years except for Plum's senior year when they were close.
2017-18: 4979 vs 1952 2016-17: 4080 vs 3980 2015-16: 4103 vs 1880 2014-15: 4194 vs 2289 2013-14: 2049 vs 1795
It also bugs me a bit that the author really plays up Kemery as a player who WOULD have a huge, singular impact on UofW, Utah, and USC...but at OSU? not so much...she COULD be a key player among others...nice downplay. How does he know??? Nice way to slant against OSU.

UW had the leading scorer in NCAA history playing for them and drew < 4k. I think that probably represents their maximum potential draw.

I agree with you. It's the author's obvious bias against KM's potential impact at OSU vs. the other 3 schools that bothers me the most. How does he know...maybe her impact will be just as big or bigger at OSU? Maybe a star among stars? Maybe a team leader for a first ever National Championship in WBB at OSU?

I read it more as: Oregon State - elite established team, lots of elite pieces, could be a key part to continuing to build on that. The rest more "could be a big fish in a small pond": Utah - just get them to the tourney and become an in-state legend Washington - maybe return them to ~3900 attendees USC - maybe help them compete for the Pac-12 title soon
Now, the author *could* have pointed out the Beavers are a Top-15 fixture and have a say in the Pac-12 title most years (of late).......But it felt like he was trying to present a balanced analysis but working with a set of 3 schools where success means one thing, and then an outlier school where success is at a whole different level....
Does Kemery want to be surrounded by comparable talent, or does she need to be "The Franchise" like someone just down the road from us, but in this case on a team where the other pieces are only going to get you so far.....
Go Beavers!

According to the NCAA stats website, some of those attendance figures are off. Over the last 5 years our averages have been 2,049, 4,194, 4,379, 4,353, and 4,979.
In terms of rank in conference in attendance, we've been 5, 1, 1, 1, 1.
Washington - 7, 5, 7, 2, 8
Utah - 12, 12, 10, 10, 10
USC - 11, 11, 12, 11, 11 (pathetic, best year was 5 years ago at 1,010 per game)
Fans only came out at Washington Kelsey's senior year because of the boost from the Final Four run and her going for the all time scoring record. Does Washington have another Final Four year on the horizon? Very doubtful; their only top 100 recruits (If they're still on the team; I don't know) are Strother (#48 recruit, senior this year) and McDonald (# 55 recruit, junior this year).
Utah has exactly 1 top 100 recruit - Williams, the 99 recruit and a sophomore this year.
USC has 8 on this year's team, but had 9 last year and, as is their habit, underperformed.
Logically, I would think it's us or Utah - but I'm not a 17 year old girl, and who knows how they think.

It’s a 90min flight from SLC to PDX and with the time difference it’s 30min. Getting from SLC to Corvallis to see your daughter play is a piece of cake.

Washington's 2016-17 attendance was also inflated by one or two games that drew 10K because of some promotions. Those games, and that year, were outliers. Like with Oregon, most year's our smallest crowds are larger than their largest crowds for any opponent not named OSU.
