An article in today's Corvallis G-T recounted a conversation Nick Madrigal had with coach PC some years ago that led to his 1st round draft status: "Roughly three years ago, Nick Madrigal picked up the phone and called Oregon State coach Pat Casey. Madrigal, a Sacramento, California native, had just wrapped up his senior season at Elk Grove High and was trying to figure out the next stop in his baseball career. “He said people were offering a lot of money,” Casey remembers Madrigal telling him over the phone. “And he said ‘coach, I think I’m a first-rounder.’ And I said ‘then we don’t have to talk about the draft anymore. You come to Oregon State and you’re going to be a first-rounder.’” Madrigal trusted Casey, and the rest is history. After winning numerous awards and leading Oregon State to consecutive super regional appearances, Madrigal was taken with the fourth overall pick by the Chicago White Sox Monday afternoon in the Major League Baseball draft. It’s the highest an OSU player has ever been selected." I just hope all our potential recruits read this! Go Beavers!

Pretty neat background story. Illustrates great confidence in Casey and OSU program, as well as great question on Nick's part. I can just imagine Horton responding to the same question. " Well, just think about all of the free Nike gear and shoes, plus a guaranteed job at the Nike factory in Taiwan... what do you think that's worth ? " 😂
