its the details !! LSU is an embarrassment in regards to details of the game.
1) the inability to hold runners on. apparently a pickoff play in the SEC is to have the shortstop slap his glove. they allow such big leads at the bases that the outfielders have no chance tothrow runners out. Nobach would have been out at 3rd if the 2nd baseman was cutting his lead down.
2) Nick's bunt. the 2nd baseman never got in position to get to 1st base to cover even if the bunt was fielded cleanly.
3) pitcher dropped ball while trying to cover 1st. he took a terrible angle to the bag making it harder to adjust to the throw.
4) when their batters finally got Abel in the stretch and his control slipped a little, they chased some pitches out of the strike zone went they had favorable counts.
there's a old saying, "you play how you practice". during LSU's practice time on Thursday, instead of doing anything productive they split up teams and played home run derby for the whole time. as a side note, I know poeple who have spent time around coach Mainieri and he is a first rate horse's ass. little man's diseases . they reap was they sow

However he is, he gave OSU props, and he and his players gave good pressers. I was impressed with Hess Saturday night. He had a bad night and he was pretty straight up about it.

I thought Mainieri's comment that they see a lot of 3rd starters like Abel in the SEC was kind of backhanded. true or not, probably time to just give Abel his due and move on.

So these guys are flinching on curve balls for EVERY starter in their league??? Honestly, a few of them looked like Jr high kids getting their first look at a real curve yesterday. When legit college hitters are flinching like that on a curve, you know it's extraordinary.

Honestly, this year they reminded me of the *ucks. Sloppy, undisciplined, and not focused. Just my opinion.

Poorly coached? Do you realize Mainieri had LSU as a national seed for the last 6 years before this year? I’m sorry but that doesn’t happen if the coach is a poor coach. Yes mainieri can be hard on players and brutally honest at times. It doesn’t sit well with some players and they leave. You know another coach that is a “horse’s ass”? Nick Saban. (And no I’m not comparing mainieri to Saban)

The players don't have focus or intensity or something. Yes it does remind of uofHo, whoever said that.

(And no I’m not comparing mainieri to Saban) I think your coach might be very good but he doesn't seem to be able to instill good baseball instincts in all of his players. My opinion is that Mainieri has had superior talent at LSU for years and they have gotten by without great fundamentals. What I saw a the games this weekend was a notably undisciplined team both at the plate and on defense. I had to go home and watch the 1st game on tivo to figure out what was wrong with the center fielder's face. Then I realized he had Kiss makeup on. That is a look at me thing that a tight Casey team would never do. He must be out there because he is a really fast dude. He is not a good outfielder yet. His approach to the hit balls was so mediocre he wouldn't be on a Casey defense. Some of the pitchers can't field their positions worth crap and the infield was often out of position. It must be nice to be a national power on raw talent.

I am sure that LSU is far more worried about 2 young starters with sore arms, and another starting pitcher rehabbing from Tommy John than they are about some of the problems they had in Corvallis. Their coach said they had lots of problems to focus on in the next year, but healthy, starting pitchers sure help cover some flaws.

I saw the same things you saw and then some (the pop up bunts, poor coverage on 1st by the pitcher, poor relay throws and slow relays although the did get one at home).
During infield and outfield warmups I thought they looked slow and sloppy, we looked snappy, efficient and professional. We sat in the right field bleachers watching the outfield take fly balls and part of the team did a relay drill to get the balls back in, it was slow, many bad throws, dropped balls, uninspired, not taken seriously. My freshman HS BB coach would have had us running bases from that kind of effort. I turned to my wife and said we were going to win based on that alone, we were prepared. LSU, not so. Hard to tell if coach or kids sometimes. I'd be careful about blaming one or the other without really knowing what was going on.

LSU looked tired to me. Those guys played a million games in the SEC tournament. Plus they had to beat the demons earlier, just to get a crack at us. They also have a couple pitchers out. Both LSU and OSU have great coaches.

Weather LSU looked fundamentally unsound or not, they won a lot of games, and got into the regional. We beat them so the right thing to do IMO at this point is enjoy the win and say nice things about LSU because the truth is LSU fans are tearing them apart much more than we could anyhow. Why give those fans an excuse to direct that angry energy at us?
Tigers did just fine and will certainly be back. They just happened to get the unfortunate draw of the Beavs on the road who are just that good this year and happen to be catching fire at the right time on top of being that good.

The “overrated” chant is the dumbest thing that fans do. Agreed. But you were comparing Coach Paul Marinara to Saban.
