Thanks. That's what I was thinking, but then I couldn't figure out why the Saints are not purple. The colors of Mardi Gras are gold, green, and purple. Supposedly, when choosing colors, the football team chose Mardi Gras colors. However, the green did not arrive on time. Thus, gold and purple. Northwestern State's choice of colors seems murkier. Purple seems to be chosen, because it was the color of the Seekers After Knowledge Literary Society. Orange is Northwestern State's second color to go with their mascot, the Demons. The Saints originally chose gold for Mardi Gras and "royalty." The Saints originally wanted to be blue and gold, but it was decided that the color scheme too closely resembled the Chargers. The original majority owner of the Saints was John W. Mecom, Jr., a Houston oilman. Mecom chose black for oil to go with gold.
