For those of you that think that the 06 and 07 teams where better than the 2017 team because they won the CWS
If you took the best pitcher off of either of the championship squads before the Super Regionals, Do you actually believe either would have had a chance to win the CWS??
O6 - not a chance - they had to play loser bracket the whole CWS

It depends on your measurement standard of better. Once you define that, either way it is a pretty short conversation.

Those teams were scrappy and were fun to watch. Like Sand Lot to perfection. My speculation: They were having fun and wouldn't give up. Someone else would have stepped up and overachieved.

I guess my issue in attempting to even venture a guess, is trying to match up with the talking heads conversations about this years squad not having any ' breathing room ' for the opposing pitchers. According to them, our current lineup is rock solid 1 through 9. Hard to disagree with that 'general' observation, but, when looking at some of the stats from top to bottom, there certainly are some lower impact hitters on any given day. I don't like to use names unless going in the positive direction, however, we do not have power top to bottom. This is evident just from our HR numbers in certain slots. We would, therefore, probably be considered to be more opportunistic in some areas of our lineup. I hope we see 'Casey ball' for this race to the top. That means making the opposing pitcher throw strikes, taking advantage of hitters counts, bunting and moving the runners, plus taking the steal, or extra bases, when given an opportunity. This team is fun to watch when they are running on all cylinders and I expect that Casey will make sure that they are mentally and physically prepared for whatever they are going to face from yesterday, all the way to the final game in the winners circle. Fehmel was throwing so hard at the beginning of last nights game, Inwas wondering where he found the fastball. He did seem to tire a little bit later... but that guy is a strike thrower. I sure hope Luke doesn't get squeezed tonite. He is so effective at pitch location, that he can pitch to any hitters weakness. The fast ball, however, can be your worst enemy, if the opposing hitters are really aggressive. We will see. Go Beavers, Make a statement ! Go Beavers !

Personally, I love this year's team and I think that they have what it takes to go all the way. Last year's team was amazing, but I think the Luke crisis significantly hurt our chances to dominate. With that in our past, the team will go far. I disagree that we lack power. With Larnach leading the league with RBIs and Rutschman just behind him, I think we have more power this year than in recent years. We've seen quite a few homers this year--including the streak of 5 in 5 games by Tyler Malone. We've hit 54 homers as a team which is up from 31 last year. Even in the years we won the National Championship, we didn't hit this many home runs. We have power!

O6 - not a chance - they had to play loser bracket the whole CWS There is no speculations needed... crap happens to teams. And, if you are going to play the "what if' game... "what if" Luke got shelled like in Zona this year? I mean we can what if every team from 2005 on to the NC!! And, Luke or no Luke there is ONLY speculation that the 2017 team would have won the NC, it was not a sure thing. I mean according to the conspiracy theorists here no pitcher wins one of the games because of the plate ump. And, unless you are going to go down the rabbit hole and say Luke pitching also changes the entire offensive output, OSU managed 2 runs in two games... so OSU must have had to toss two shutouts??? The other "TEAMS" did win the NC, and were teams who came thru at the right time, with contributions coming from all corners. That is the sign of a champion... and until OSU has another NC team, no other team can lay claim to that. The 2006 team may be the most remarkable team in OSU baseball history in coming back day after day thru the losers bracket. 56-6 is remarkable as a W/L record... the only 2 game losing streak/poor offense/poor decisions/bad umpire whatever you what to make the reason came at a bad time. However, 2017 was not a NC team and nothing but pure conjecture changes that. Stats don't win you trophies, playing the game does. Factually a NC trophy is the truest indicator of the best team in the nation and hence the best two teams in OSU history. No conjecture or speculation needed...
