GREG FUCHS OF/IF 6’1” 196 B-L / T-R MERCER ISLAND, WA. HS
Greg Fuchs is a muti-position player that has played 3B, C, OF and in 2018, played SS for Mercer Island, WA. HS. An athletic utility player that played three years in Coach Dominic Woody’s powerful Mercer Island baseball program. During Fuchs 4 year career at MIHS, the program had a record of 84-16 with shared or outright league titles, regional titles and WIAA state 3A playoff appearances in three of those years. Woody is a former All PAC catcher at UW that was a 4th round selection and played 7 years of professional baseball with the Marlins, Angels and Mariner organizations.
Fuchs has hit a robust .408 and .486 in the past two seasons. He earned first team All State 3A honors as a junior and is expected to repeat as a senior. Has a long, smooth and level stroke from the left side with a good eye - he is known for hitting screaming line drives from foul line to foul line. Contact hitter that seldom strikes out. Has developing power and projects as a HR threat as he physically matures. Has good size, competitive and is a natural team leader. Maintains a 3.6 GPA and National Honor Society in the classroom. Recruited by OSU as an outfielder….for starters.
SEASON STATISTICS:
2018: Fuchs started 22 games and was 34-70 and a .486 BA. He scored 26 runs, had 25 RBI, 6 doubles, 3 triples and 3 HR. Only 1 strike out with 14 BB, 2 HBP and was 2/2 on SB. His OB% was .545 with a .785 SLG%. Fielding % was .914 at SS.
Mercer Island finished the season with a 21-1 record, a 13-1 KingCo 3A League record. They won the KingCo 3A league title and their Regional championship. They were ranked No. 1 in the AP/Seattle Times 3A prep poll for ten consecutive weeks. In the WIAA state 3A playoffs, the Islanders suffered a huge upset in the first round by Edmonds-Woodway, 6-3 in 9 innings.
2017: Fuchs started 24 games and was 31-76 and a .408 BA. Had 5 doubles, 1 triple, scored 17 runs with 24 RBI. Had 14 BB, 2 HBP, 6 K’s, and 5/6 SB. His .408 batting average led the KingCo 3A conference. Posted an OB% of .505 and a SLG% of 500. Fielding % at 3B was .837.
Mercer Island registered a 21-3 season record and tied for the KingCo 3A League title with a 12-2 record. The Islanders won the Regional championship to advance to state playoffs. In the WIAA state 3A playoffs, they defeated Olympia-Capital, 10-0, Bonney Lake (and Matt Gretler), 12-4, Edmonds-Woodway 2-1 before losing the semi final to Kennewick-Southridge (and Jake Harvey), 5-4. Mercer Island finished 3rd in the AP- Seattle Times final prep poll.
2016: Fuchs played in 22 games going 16-55 for a .292 BA. with 11 Runs, and 10 RBI. Hit 1 double, 1 triple and was 1/1 on SB. Had 9 BB, 3 HBP, and 4 K’s. His OB% was .412, SLG% .345 and a 1.000 fielding %.
Mercer Island finished their season with a 20-2 record Their 16-2 finish in the KingCo 3A league was good enough for a first place tie for the league championship with Lake Washington. The Islanders won their Region and was then defeated by Kennewick/Southridge HS (and Jake Harvey), 11-1 in the opening round of the WIAA state playoffs.
SUMMER BALL:
Greg Fuchs played a full summer schedule of baseball every season following his freshman year. He played three years with the age group Mudville Pinnacle teams. Baseball Northwest 17u and 18u Elite teams. Played with future OSU teammates Jayce Easley, and Gavin Grant on the 18u BBNW squad in the Wilson Premier Baseball Classic in Arizona. Played for the Bellevue Dragons on the Seattle area Senior Legion circuit. Participated in the MLB-USA Baseball developmental program.
