Over the bag is fair. No matter where it hits. HP calls the first 90. Defers to 3B after that. Hope 3B has his head out of it. Tough call for 3B. He is down the line foul territory. On this play, the guy lost his position. He was on the line when it hit him. Should have been live no matter. When the ball is fair past the infield, blue is like a rock, part of field. Ball is live. He called it foul. Blew it. Then made it worse. Once he called it foul, it doesn't matter if it hit him. Ball was foul, play is dead, all runners return to their respectable bases.

A bit of a reach here, but maybe Johnny All-staff would work? Something like Mississippi St. employed to get past us and others on the way to the semis in Omaha a few years back? Not ideal, but maybe throwing several guys who are essentially relievers for 2 to 3 innings - like Abel was today? I am honestly wondering, because at this point that could mean no more than a couple of games on the way to an NC. I wouldn’t want to count on that strategy, but it would be interesting - quick hooks for anyone not sharp. Our pitchers in the 2006 CWS championship series, game 3 Nickerson 6 2/3 Paterson Kunz 1/3 Buck (WP 13-3) 1 1/3 Gunderson (S 20) 2/3 I also believe Paterson and Turpen together played a full game in the earlier bracket against Rice. Paterson started and played the first 4 2/3 then Turpen took over and got the win. Gundy came in at 8 1/3 to close it out. I think Abel can handle half a game easily. Make him the starter so we get a lead and then bring in relievers to close it out. We leaned on our pitchers in 2006. This year we have the Offense to handle some pitching issues.

But, you want Abel's potentially filthy stuff late so you start Burns.
