Basketball Jones6-foot 3-inches tall. Agile. Post. Shot blocker. Ambidextrous. Nimble. Quick. Springy. Athletic. These are just a few of the ways to describe the latest commit to Scott Rueck's women's basketball program. Taylor Jones, out of Dallas (Tex.) Dallas Christian, is regarded as one of the nation's best players for the 2019 class and she intends to spend her four years of college playing under Rueck's tutelage.

This is one of the best OSU recruit articles I have read in a long time.....Lots of personal information that helps us to better understand the inner workings of the OSU recruiting process.. To me it was especially enjoyable to read the high praise directed to Coach Baker - it is not the first time we have heard of her remarkable recruiting skills, but this interview is perhaps the most emphatic testimony we have heard from the parent of a prospect.
This article is a good example of how much information can be gathered from a meaningful interview. So good on AN for scoring that...
A good read that makes me appreciate even more the substance and character of the entire WBB program.... GO BEAVS !!

Great article! Katie Baker is a jewel, we need to do everything possible to keep her a beaver. This next year is going show how good she really is. Under Rueck's tutelage, she will have the bigs ready to go.

Nice article....makes me a tad nervous though...Katie Baker is getting terrific press which is really great and all, but hopefully it does not unintentionally backfire, if you know what I mean.

Press or not, she is a well-known coaching commodity. She will be offered jobs very soon... if she has not already. I think she'll wait a bit to be considered for "better jobs". But, she's here for another 2-3 max.

In another year or two give her a promotion to associate coach and hope she really likes OSU.

In another year or two give her a promotion to associate coach and hope she really likes OSU. Many hope the same thing. But, as my mentor once told me, and me my assistants... and I'm sure Scott is similar... "if you're not in coaching to one day be a HC, you shouldn't be coaching". I agree it is a very broad statement with many variables, but, for the most part you learn the ropes as a young D1 asst so you are then prepped to run, hire for your own program. Some former HCs find life as an asst much more relaxing... I did. But, for the most part assts typically aspire to be "the man" (no sexism implied or meant). And, from her demeanor, interactions with staff, players, and recruits she is well on her way. The resume SR's program will give her will only make it more difficult to keep her around. PS- again not sexist, but young female coaches tend to leave coaching for family life far more often than male coaches. So... love, marriage, family sometimes comes into play.

In another year or two give her a promotion to associate coach and hope she really likes OSU. The way I figure it, she'll stick around as long as it looks like we could be contenders for a national championship. In the 2019-20 season, our bigs should be maturing fine and we'll still have Slocum and most of our sharpshooters. In 2020-21, we'll have 3 very mature bigs (now including Jones), and we'll still have Slocum and Simmons and Taya and Goodman, plus whoever else we can pick up by then. Both of those years look right now to have good potential to reach the Final Four or the championship game. But once we HAVE a national championship, with all the attention that brings, she's definitely going to get big-time head-coaching offers, and she'll take one while the opportunity is there. It would be a double-whammy if a Pac-12 team (think Cal or UCLA who finally decide to get rid of their not-so-hot coaches, or maybe even Stanford if TV retires) would take her as HC, since they'd be weakening us at the same time. I feel that I can see the future clearly, my thickness not withstanding. (And in the 2021-22 season, we'll still have a strong team with now a dominating interior (6'9, 6'7, and a long-armed 6'3) plus Simmons. It's not hard to see that with a couple more sharpshooters and a really good PG that that could be a great year, too.)

Marriage and family might come into play here as well - Katie's twitter feed seems to indicate she recently got engaged to Derek Faulkner, who spent a year as an OSU Men's soccer assistant coach, but now seems to be coach for a school in Iowa........It might be prudent for the men's soccer team to consider bringing him back..... Go Beavers!

Not totally sure on this one - but I do not think TJ will be an active player on the Italy trip..... I think she is still rehabbing from surgery..... I'm sure someone else can fill in the particulars on this.......

I'm sure someone else can fill in the particulars on this....... You think she'll still be rehabbing by the summer of 2019? I highly doubt that. That's 16 months later. The roster is for the summer of 2018. Kennedy Brown is also listed.

I think the fact that Taylor Jones and Kennedy Brown are together on this team is good for recruiting. Hope TJ is trying to convince KB to commit to the Beavers.
