Attended the Beaver State Tour Event yesterday in downtown Portland. Mike Parker was MC, along with our AD. Coaches that were in attendance: Wayne Tinkle, Scott Rueck, and Jonathan Smith. Jonathan Smith got many of the questions, but so did Scott Rueck. Rueck is legit motivator, and, public speaker. He did share in his comments that he was excited by the incoming freshman. He described AA as a guard in a 6' 9" frame, not yet strong, but high potential. He said PM is "Ruth like" in that she has potential, but not as developed in her skills, but incredibly bright. However, Rueck said PM knows it, and that is great when a kid knows it as they come ready to improve Day 1. Jasmine Simmons was described as Pivec-like in that she is tough, and where Pivec would drive to the basket through you, Jazz would juke you, go around you, and dunk on you. He said she is incredibly athletic, and we are going to love her. He said she is the most ready to play, but will have a hard time getting minutes given the talent already on the floor. Rueck did say that AA & PM will get minutes, and he is excited to develop them as quickly as he can. Rueck stated they will be on campus in a month. The kids will make another international trip (Italy) this year. Lastly, Rueck was asked what incoming freshman are lacking when they arrive at OSU. Rueck didn't hesitate and said they know ZERO about how to play defense. Rueck said those that are committed to learning how to play defense thrive in his system, and those that do not, won't see many minutes. Rueck loves OSU. I can't see anyone convincing Rueck to leave OSU. Even Rueck's parents were in attendance!

I am a bit concerned about the tour. What I've read online is that the NCAA rules allow a foreign tour once every four years. I checked online and our last tour was in the summer of 2015.... making us eligible in 2019... not 2018. I hope the rules have changed to allow this, but have not yet seen evidence of it. Does anyone know the answer?
BTW... thank you very much, loltrader, for the very informative post!

It's now obvious what Rueck has done. He's promised these new kids a trip to Italy to get them to sign with OSU, but it was all a damned lie! Now, after your post, he'll claim that he failed to subtract properly: "2018 - 2015 is NOT equal to 4, sorry!" So much for having a college education, I guess, when you haven't got the moral fiber of a nematode.

Ok, now I'm really confused. Are Nematodes known for high or low morals? Google is ambivalent about this and I have little personal knowledge of them.

From Wikipedia: "Like so many non-human species, parasitic nematodes have no guile. They live in the most disgusting environments without complaint, surviving on the most vile of fluids in the bowels of their hosts. From these simple facts, we can conclude that the moral character of a nematode exceeds that of his (or her) human host who, consumed by greed, will lie to young athletes to further his own professional career."

I'd appreciate it if one of you with connections to the program or in attendance at the next Beaver road show would ask the question. The rules online that I've found seem pretty clear that these overseas tours are allowed only once every four years... not three.

I don't see it as anything to worry about.

OSU WBB is going to Italy NEXT year, not this year! Not sure who heard that it was this year but that’s not the case. Relax, everyone! No concerns necessary! Just prepare yourself for another great season! GO BEAVS!

Thanks for the report lotrader. Good to hear SR's thoughts. I've thought all along that Jazz would be ready to play, and should be a star for the Lady Beavs, but you wondered how much she would get to play as a freshman, with the starters returning at her position(s). Kalmer's transfer will give Jazz a shot at playtime. It will be interesting to see how many minutes AA and PM get. I'm not expecting a lot out of either of them this season, but I hope they surprise me and develop quickly. Tons of returning talent for the upcoming season, but without much height. AA and PM could really help if they can get ready.

But I have a high standard of strict honesty and I know when to admit I'm wrong: Rueck is an okay guy. And the Wikileaks quote on nematode morals was a total fabrication, just to clear up any doubts you might have had.

I'd be annoyed, too, if I was the coach and some bulletin board yahoo thought that I'd schedule a trip like that without running it past the Compliance Dept. and was so concerned about it that he just had to ask me. It's like saying, "Remember that you can't pay the recruits to come here."
Unless I was at Louisville, Arizona, Michigan State, . . . , in which case it would probably be the first time I ever heard that.

He said he had made it quite clear in his remarks (and seemed a bit perturbed .. as if he was being asked clarification for the 20th time today). I hadn't checked the board last night or early this morning, before work. Oops.
Scott seems awfully unappreciative of the wise and thoughtful advice offered on this board. He better start reading and listening if he wants to be successful.
