by “Unique” I’m referring to: Luke was well into his 3rd season w Beaver teammates before this became public - they already knew him as a person. That would never happen in the minors. Corvallis is an open minded town in love with it’s Beavs...again, not the situation in most minor league towns. Pat Casey, who has totally backed Luke, has impeccable credentials, and has near God-like status in CV....that’s not the case in typical minor league cities. None of the Beaver teammates (too my knowledge) are fathers - that would not likely be the case in a AAA or MLB clubhouse. I hate to say this, but I think that Luke’s final game in organized competition may be, if things go well, in Omaha in just a month or so. I sure hope you’re wrong about Luke not getting to play in the Bigs. He the best college pitcher in the nation in my opinion, and it would be a real shame if he couldn’t follow his dream. . We’ll know a whole lot more in 17 days (MLB draft). I can’t help but think of the dichotomy of opinion re:Barry Bonds, during his heyday in SF. At that time I followed the Giants pretty closely, both their games and talk radio (knbr). At a time when the nation was absolutely roasting Bonds over steroids, the SF fan base was somewhere between blind adulation and denial. It’s only natural to stick with ‘your guy’. If you look at the (albeit not necessarily representative) opinions on Luke, by a more national baseball fan base, following the NYT and SI articles, they are almost universally “if my team (Cubs, Mets, etc.) signs this guy - “I’m Done!”. While Beaver fans have taken the time to digest the Luke ‘matter’ thoroughly, and have reached individual understandings of support, or non-support - Less invested fans out there seem to be simply concluding “no way, no how”. MLB teams, as a business, do not need the Corvallis/Beaver BB fan base. They DO need the Joe Six-Pack/Father-Mother fan base.

Win games and the fans won't care.

So B2B Pac-12 pitcher of the week would be some sort of bizarro SI jinx correct?
