.......in regard to pitching options. Monday / Tuesday could be considered a mixed (to discouraging) result in identifying something positive about the Beaver pitching staff potential, once you get past Heimlich and Fehmel.
A total of 7 pitchers were used. Five of them allowed 2 or more base runners per inning. Only Burns and D. Donovan showed better than that.
Though the games were blowouts, it appeared that San Diego was weakest at Pitching and Defense...with their batting order providing a reasonable enough challenge to allow a meaningful (though brief) evaluation.
The Mon/Tue results, coupled with Mulholland’s Sunday performance, point out that pitching questions are no closer to being answered than they were several weeks ago.

Pretty clear our new #3 is Abel. Abel finds a way to throw Strikes, keeps the Ball down he can beat anyone, Can the O cover the weakness in Pitching? Maybe! But then again the who show the New Season will take a heck of lot of Luck and bunch of Maybes. Go Beav's lock up the National Seed and see if the Staff can produce a couple of important wins.

Unfortunately... "pretty clear" is not pretty! He's #3 due to the ineptness of others not his excellence. I think you forgot the "if" to begin the 2nd sentence? As Abel's issues are now both mental and mechanical. Even good stretches for him can disappear rapidly, as we've all witnessed, because he's unsound in his motion/delivery. Until he is... and, it will not be this season, he'll be a wildcard with unpredictable results. Keeping the "ball down" isn't the important aspect of locating. It's being able to move the hitters eyes. It's being able to throw multiple pitches in any count. Abel can't do that with the most important pitch... the fastball! He's got to be able to go 1 thru 7 in and out... and be able to elevate and "bury" the FB in the zone. Without the FB the other pitches become less effective. Bottom line, until he gets a smooth, balanced motion that is repeatable... every time no thought process involved... he'll be wildly inconsistent. But, you can count several other arms in the same category. Some severely digressing as the season wore on. Unfortunately that puts extra pressure on Luke and Bryce. They assuredly have to win their starts for any post season success.

Yes he throws off balance and doesnt seem to nail his landing very well, which is part of convincing the ump you threw it where you wanted to throw it.

KRhod, Sitton, Nygren, Grbavac, Bryant, Scott Schultz (though he bounced back at the end) and quite a few other guys seemed to regress at the end of their OSU time. Injuries play a big part, and sometimes our expectations outgrow the true ability of the guy, but sometimes you just shake your head and wonder what happened. True with most programs. We will see how the young guys progress down the stretch and next season, but patience is tough for us old guys. Lol.

That's baseball. It's an exceedingly difficult game. You must believe you are better than you are.
