the team would be dangerous with more than 2 pitchers that can consistently locate pitches. Beating TSDTR should be a Given! They are Bad! If the team wants to go deep in the College World Series, some pitchers need to develop very quickly. Missing the strike zone and not locating pitches will kill them! Also, please quit leaving so many on Base! Go Beavs! Hoping for 2018 CWS National Champions. Go get another Banner Men!

Casey's comment about a Pitcher not throwing Strikes pretty well sums it up. They are either scared or not good enough. Our Sunday situation frankly is weak and not sure we have a real stopper in the BP. Abel a week ago looked like he was ready, and Abel. He was not. We have likely the Best Pitcher in the Land with LH. A tough to outstanding 2 but we have about 3 weeks to find some who can throw Strikes and get people out as Number 3. BP? We have a great chance, but.... but...

Drew is not on the roster, but there he was bigger than life sporting the#25, signing autographs after the game. What I wouldn't give.....

Sadly, I must say he didn’t pass. As for the bullpen, if Mulholland must pitch extended outings, it’ll end badly as we just saw. Closers shouldn’t be pitching 6 out saves. This team may get awarded a national seed depending how the next two weeks go, but the only way to Omaha is to go 5-0 in regionals and super regionals. One loss, and this team looks vulnerable.

Stanford's closer went 3 full (or pretty close) I like the Spahn & Sain and pray for rain approach

We are so spoiled the last few years with a brilliant 3rd starter. Outside of Florida and Stanford (who didn't even have confidence in theirs today and bumped him) go find me other lock-down 3rd starters in the national seed teams.....not at UNC (struggle!), not Ole Miss (struggle!), UGA bounced around a bunch and "similar" to ours, Clemson has a solid guy (but still 3.65 ERA and .255 BAA), not Arkansas, not Texas Tech, not FSU.
Anyway, I'll stop. Point is that we've been super spoiled and come to believe a Bryce Fehmel or Jake Thompson are "normal" 3rd starters. The majority of top 25 teams would kill to have a choice between Gambrell and Abel....

The majority of top 25 teams would kill to have a choice between Gambrell and Abel.... First... no they wouldn't... some top 25 that are not postseason threats... yes... but, most... not! Second, SEC is hated, but the facts are its a very tough league and their postseason successes can't be argued. Their pitchers are talented and deep and face teams full of quality hitters. ERA or potential are not a great measure of pitching talent/success. Most of the top teams have guys throwing strikes and not putting guys on for free. We don't even have guys pitching to contact or can command multiple pitches in the zone. Bryce is the perfect example of a great #3 starter. Has three pitches he can throw in any count, typically gets outs via contact. If he doesn't locate its in the zone and gets hit hard, but its in the zone. The other issue is that at least 6 of the other top teams I've watched more than a few times have a very stable bullpen with multiple arms that can get guys out. OSU lacks a 3rd starter and a decent bullpen. Right now we're not good enough and a couple guys looked scared. To be honest with Luke having a third of wins (with Bryce they are almost 50%) and the inconsistency of the rest I'm really surprised at the W/L record at this stage. I thought 20-10 Pac12 record/strong 2nd place would be a good call for this staff/team. But, the pitching has been sub par with the offense better than I thought. Unfortunately pitching/pitching depth is the bigger key in the post season. And, it's rather late for anyone, let alone several, to gain the consistency needed when the pressure amps up in a Regional/Super. And... you're right OSU fans have been spoiled. Great recruiting classes of pitchers that actually fulfilled or exceeded projections have been a hallmark. It's been a pretty incredible run, but as a couple of old timer scouts mentioned in Surprise and again at WSU, this is the weakest overall staff at osu since maybe 2003. I've really not went back to review actual names but inclined to believe it. Scary proposition that supports the claim... Bryce will be the best returner on this staff!! Nothing against Bryce as he has had a great career, but he's not a #1 Friday night stud. EVERY other guy has a long way to go... first time I can remember we'll be in this situation.

I’m wondering if Burns hasn’t sufficiently impressed during workouts to earn a bit more usage in games.
Very small sample size - makes it hard for mere fans to judge his potential (10 innings all season).
His first ever college outing went poorly (1st weekend in Surprise), but since that time his WHIP is approximately 1.0.

One thing you may have forgotten with this evaluation is Luke and Bryce have started 26 games and the rest of the pitchers have started 21. If they pitch well you would expect them to dominate the wins. Maybe a better way to illustrate the concerns is the percentage of losses that fall on nonstarters.

The rumor heard at the ballpark is that Drew is considering applying for a medical hardship and returning next year, if he does not get drafted. Does anyone actually believe he won't be drafted? He is going to be under a microscope, literally, from any team looking to draft him, but he will probably be a 11+ rounder, not sure he'll be seen as a guaranteed money guy, unless he throws some really good bullpens.
