Lots of chatter in the stadium Sunday, about our need for a solid Sunday pitcher to help get us to Omaha. Most guys I talked to think Dylan has earned a shot as the Sunday starter. I don't know if his arm can last long enough. But there is only one way to find out. Hand him the ball next Sunday.

Boy that is a tough Q. I can say that I was questioning that myself this weekend. On the one hand you can solidify the Sunday spot. But ultimately i think he can have a leveraged effect over several games in a weekend if he stays in the pen. Bridge several innings. Then figure Sunday is pitching by committee
I like his make up. Or maybe it's just his scowl. LOL. Parker keeps referencing Gunderson.

A real tough attitude, that you gotta love.Basically saying that he dares them to hit what he is throwing. Need a killer instinct to be a great pitcher.

Does anyone know the status of Mitchell Verburg? I heard a few weeks ago that he was fit to pitch. Will he redshirt? MB.

He reminds me of Gundy - Gambrell needs a few more starts - and Washington State is a perfect team to give him another shot at finding his rhythm. Jake would be my preference for a starter, but he is so dammed valuable as a closer!

If I were to give him a start, I would sit Fehmel not Gambrell. Gambrell has been good and steadily getting better with the exception of this last start. He has a tremendous upside and will get there in time. Fehmel has been shaky most of the time with a few exceptions of pitching well. He does not possess Gambrells level of "potential". I am still not sure why Burns has not seen a start somewhere even a mid-week. He is around the plate. Pitches ahead in the count.Has pretty good command most of the time. Give him a start Nate!

That is to say that Gambrell has been getting worse, if his last start is included? I agree with you that Gambrell will get there in time; however, "potential" that has not yet materialized is just that, potential.
ERA WHIP OBA K/BB BB/9Nathan Burns 3.38 1.75 .250 0.71 7.88Bryce Fehmel 3.65 1.23 .246 2.46 2.77Grant Gambrell 3.42 1.39 .222 2.07 5.37Luke Heimlich 3.05 1.22 .234 5.29 3.30Dylan Pearce 1.96 1.13 .217 3.14 3.13
Gambrell's high number of walks is troubling, almost double that of the other three pitchers. If he can get his control down, Gambrell could be a beast. However, it has not happened yet.
Burns' walk numbers are also troubling, more than treble Fehmel's walk numbers.
A lot of people on here are down on Fehmel, but I still do not believe that the numbers support the negative sentiments.

A lot of people on here are down on Fehmel, but I still do not believe that the numbers support the negative sentiments. Burns is a unusual case re: the excellent stats you’ve posted. His first outing ( in Surprise v Cal Poly)..in true Freshman fashion, was not so good (2/3 inning, 2 hits, 3 B.B., 3 ER, 29 pitches). Consider though, that while his season ERA is 3.38, which includes that nervous 1st appearance - His PAC-12 ERA is 0.00 (albeit only 3 appearances). I’m hoping that Burns will be the special sauce the Beavs need to go deep in post-season. And it certainly appears they need some sort of magic between now and June in order to go deep. Along those lines (May/June magic): Grenier is really stepping it up at the plate, as his D1 career inches toward completion. If he keeps it up his draft stock should soar.

Lundberg: Pat Casey said there will “probably” be a new starting pitcher for Sunday’s game at Washington State. He didn’t give a name, but Dylan Pearce makes the most sense

Has Casey checked Dylan's poll numbers? Well... in a way it doesn't make sense!? Dylan has really been the only consistent arm out of the pen sans Jake. You start him and who is that guy that has shown you can depend on? We do need a starter, but we also need a guy who can give consistent innings... maybe in two games over a weekend. You lose using Dylan in multiple games if he starts... not that we've actually done that. Although he was in the pen in SLC and Tucson when he should have been used over multiple days! Point blank, no matter who starts, what the performance, OSU needs more than one other pitcher to step up their performances.

Kevin Able stepped forward last night, but he's not going to be able to go this weekend. Lots of speculation then, moving forward to Sunday.

If it is Pearce, then maybe the coaches feel that Burns is ready to step into the set-up role.
And then what happens to Gambrell and/or Fehmel? Especially if Abel works his way into being a candidate for the rotation (he may already be there).
