Abel getting torched. T8 lead off hitter w clean single to right. Faced 6 batters = 3 hits + 1 BB. Chamberlain coming in. Wow... trade 54 base runners in 28 IP, for another Frosh with 29 in 17 IP and a 6.23 ERA... Ooops... 30... Is that what this staff has become?.....or Has Beaver coaching staff conceded this game....looking to tomorrow to claim series? I know that's not true....but wow.

Is that what this staff has become?.....or Has Beaver coaching staff conceded this game....looking to tomorrow to claim series? Folks look at W's and L's... and RPI! But, if you look at SOS and really peek at this staff and the stats they've compiled, it is the weakest staff (and was coming into the season as far as D1/Pac12 experience and proven abilities at this level) we've had in some time. The Pac12 is not that strong, maybe only a 3-4 team NCAA invite this year the way teams below us are playing. Yet, we only go 10-5 vs the "easy" part of the schedule. I stated this earlier that the offense needs to score a TD plus a game after Luke pitches. And, that 20-10 or close would be amazing IMHO for the composition this staff. It was not a joke... or a disparagement. Pitching and Defense wins and we were/are not up to snuff on the hill. Losing series @ Utah and Zona was writing on the wall. Oregon is a BAD team, sweeping should have happened. Losing a series at Home to ASU would be devastating. Grant needs to pitch one hell of a game tomorrow. Unfortunately the pitching has not developed, and there was no way to expect Luke to match last year... and, really even if he did it doesn't matter. He pitches one game a weekend... and over pitched even with a 6 run lead so we don't have to use the pen. We have seen some stellar performances and will need them. We can win a regional is we get those performances, but don't see this team hosting a Super unless there's a seeded upset. It's who we are right now. And, hopefully the 'beatings' these younger guys are taking some days will pay off the next couple years... they better!

Imagine how scary it would be if Luke hadn’t returned. There is not a chance of us surviving beyond a regional with this unreliable staff unless our hitting explodes. We lack consistency offensively at times, but the erratic pitching is a problem.

The pitching after Heimlich is just average at best. If Fehmel doesn't hit his spots he is going to struggle. Struggling most of the year. Need the other pitchers to step up or in the end they won't make it to the top of the college baseball world

Fehmel is a guaranteed inconsistency. I do believe (or at least hope), that Gambrell could be the true wild card...and at the back end, that Burns could be the same. If stars align, it could all work out. Not a strong probability...but simply a possibility. That’s the special magic that allows us mere fans to get our thrills...or our disappointments.

Even after a really ugly game, I try to see a positive. Tonight I thought Burns had good stuff and command. I also thought Chamberlain was better than he has been in a long time. Ugly game though.

I mostly agree. The mistakes running the bases seemed to put us on our heels. We are at our best when agressive. Let's hope agressive shows up tomorrow.

D1 Baseball projects 4 PAC 12 teams in field of 64. Though with U of AZ now losing 5 games in a row (including 2 - and counting - to Utah), it might only be 3. Epic series coming up in May at Goss v. UCLA and Stanford. Those two series should have a real post-season atmosphere, with the cream rising to the top.

Some of these young pitchers are not going to get any better unless they are put in challenging situations, and allowed to fail/succeed. Sometimes you sacrifice today for the future; we have ample breathing room to do that.
Today was one of those days, so Mulholland and Pierce sat. Burns and Chamberlain pitched well. We will need them down the road. Abel remains inconsistent, but he's not going to get any better by not pitching.

When Madrigal gets a line drive, that would have given the team the lead, snagged by a leaping infielder and turned into a double play, it just isn’t your day. That ASU pitcher did a good number on our left handed hitters, his curve ball was working all game long.

Just got home. Very disappointed in our coaches/third base coach in particular. By my account cost us minimum of three runs. Stealing second with Madrigal up and 2-2 count. Grenier thrown out on ball three. Then next pitch a ball.....Double steal with pitcher in trouble with no outs and two on?......Larnach sliding in to first, ball dropped and Grenier still standing on third?.
It is easy to armchair in baseball. Understood. I have said several times, our coaching staff is not having a good year at all. Todays decisions cost us big time. Even on defense on bunt coverage the decision to leave Armstrong covering third on a bunt thinking we could throw out the lead runner at third? Really? ASU hitter bunts down the third baseline far enough so runner is easily safe at first while third baseman is covering third? Not sure who is making the calls but ouch!
Nathan Burns was the best looking pitcher today. Let him try to start next Saturday and give Fehmel a rest. Madrigal is a stud. Gretler improving his hitting at the right time of the year. Gambrell is still the key to how deep we go. Mulholland can't be a factor if he doesn't pitch. Still would like to see him get a start.
Feel free to disagree. Have to call it like I see it.

I agree with you a steal in that situation would be a major mistake. yesterday just wasn't our day. "the sun doesn't shine on the same dog's ass everyday"- Jim "Catfish "Hunter.

Just a few quick comments. Yep the BP pretty much sucks this year. Young and some regression. Brandon E ? From watching kids for a long time it looks like Abel is suffering from what happened to my Stardom. Has great stuff, but hangs the balls then loses composure. If he can figure it out I think he is a Fri. Night Guy. Agree Gambrell is a key. We are not done yet! Go Beav's!
