LOL....it's just crazy enough to work! If he gets an extra AB every third game well...he might get an extra HR. Worked tonite didn't it TS has been listening to Meggs in Seattle. Hey, I got a new idea. Lets start the game off with a reliever! We'll get them crossed up with lefty's and righty's. Then.....we'll bring in the starter. Genius he has 21 home runs, but only 42 rbi - he ought to have 65-70 and would have if he was batting 3rd, IMO, that might mean some extra victories. Following the 7-8-9 hitters he is much less likely to find people on base, as is reflected in the low rbi total. Would he have 21 homers if he was hitting cleanup? interesting question.

And hitting a guy with 21 home runs lead-off, makes zero sense to me LOL....it's just crazy enough to work! If he gets an extra AB every third game well...he might get an extra HR. Then.....we'll bring in the starter. Genius by hitting 1st instead of 3rd he will get 12-14 more at bats in a full season, doesn't seem like a enough to justify the move. 15 of his 21 homers have been solo shots. to me , one home run with a couple guys on would do more damage than getting a few more at bats.

EXCEPT... and many get caught up in the "initial" lineup spot. Im not sure the new stats are, but 2005 thru 2014 for all MLB games a leadoff guy... Leads off an inning 40.6% Hits in 2-5 spots in an inning 53.7% It's not college baseball, but gives the data from a much larger sample that I'd expect to hold true for the college game.

Smith has a good, young nucleus of young position players. He probably will be canned, but ASU is not far off. A good ASU helps the Pac 12.

But would you rather have him hitting following the 7-8-9 or the top of the order?
