I don't know how a guy can lose so many games at a program like ASU. Whatever he's doing I hope he keeps it up. Having that baseball program struggle helps us immensely.

Fans down here are furious at Ray Anderson, the AD, for not firing him last year. Most fans don"t show a whole lot of respect to the Beavers so I'm enjoying the Hell out of their suffering

Devils Dugout is a very active forum. There are actually a number of participants on that site that wish for ASU to lose, so that a T.Smith replacement will occur sooner, rather than later.
Interestingly, to make it even more vexing, Smith's replacement at Indiana has experienced fair success, especially when compared to ASU.

IIRC he had some team issues at the end of the year. I think his pitching coach quit or moved to another program a bit before the season. So Tracy was doing the pitch calling too. I think he left some seniors at home on the last road trip. Which rankled some players. he had some sort of clubhouse ultamatim in that time period too. The clubhouse was a mess that TS was blaming on the players pining for playing time and parents (?).
If they don't make the playoffs I would bet TS is released

If he gets an extra AB every third game well...he might get an extra HR. Worked tonite didn't it TS has been listening to Meggs in Seattle. Hey, I got a new idea. Lets start the game off with a reliever! We'll get them crossed up with lefty's and righty's. Then.....we'll bring in the starter. Genius

Following the 7-8-9 hitters he is much less likely to find people on base, as is reflected in the low rbi total.

He has a guy with 21 home runs....who is a Freshman....that he likely is responsible for bringing to the program. I would think that counts for something. ASU actually looked pretty good at times tonight, I don't think they are that far away talent wise from competing for the league title. Luke was fantastic out there, big challenge to continue the momentum tomorrow.

They are also the worst fielding team in the Pac 12 (per Parker) 4 unearned runs in the 8th. Dropped foul ball. Bad throw to the plate w/bases loaded. Late in the game when Luke was running out of pitches ASU was 1st ball swinging. They easily could have run up his pitch count and got to the pen in the 8th. Which if you were down 2-0 might have been interesting in the 9th Based on small sample size (tonight only) not a fundamentally sound team.

They are really young, they will be a good team in the next few years, need Smith coaching them to hold them back. 😊

Of course all the other experienced D1 baseball coaches here know that a different spot in the lineup would assure the same number of HRs and 20+ more RBIs. They have a team OBA of .364, strike out over twice as much as they walk, have 29 SB in 49 attempts. The RBI total isn't getting much better anywhere in that lineup. Seems Torkelson has 21 of their 36 HRs... hitting .331, scored 41 times, .808 slugging, .441 OBA and the coach doesn't know what he's doing? He's an idiot? I don't think his lineup card is the issue.

While not disputing some problems overall in their fundamentals, I will say that they have some gloves and arms in that infield. They took away 3 or 4 hits from us that most couldn’t, including a fantastic diving backhand in the grass and bullet to get the runner at first by their shortstop, and a great diving stop on the outfield grass by their first baseman on a rocket shot by Larnach. They have athletes, but aren’t well-coached. Torkelson’s drop was weird, but the pitcher!s error looked like a dude who panicked in the face of aggressive base runners and the pressure of the moment in a close game.
