Mitch has missed 2/3 of the 2018 season. With only 19 games remaining on our regular season schedule, how much opportunity would be available for him to return to a tournament level of form by the time post season play begins? We have 12 healthy arms and the pen has been relatively dependable this year. We are in a tight race with Stanford for the P-12 North title. Available innings are tight. Oregon State's bullpen situation differs from most PAC teams - Yeskie's challenge is not in keeping the bullpen staff rested but finding enough work to keep them all sharp and combat ready. I suspect Mitch would need to log some meaningful innings in order to be helpful once Regional play begins.
Not knowing the details of his injury, but considering what we do know (he's not healthy and he's missed 36 games to date), a Red Shirt year may be in the cards for Mitch. He would enter the 2019 season with 3 to play 3 which would afford him ample time to pitch his way into the MLB draft by 2020.
Fundamentally you are evaluating the trade off between what contribution he might be able to make this year in post season competition versus having him healthy for an additional full season of baseball in the future.

He would still be eligible for the draft next year as a redshirt sophomore.
I don't think I've seen anything official regarding what his injury is.

I believe he hurt it during fall practices. I'm not sure if Casey has every directly said "it's his back" (probably not), but Lundburg and a few others have mentioned it in tweets/articles. Frustrating thing is there haven't been any updates since early March when he apparently threw on the side.

Probably not much to say. It would be great to have him out there, and he would be out there if he could be, but it's what it is.

Would expect RS now. Save him for next year. If he has good year that improves draft stock. Or he comes back for RS junior.
