We are not going to get the Pac-12's automatic berth, so it will be in the NCAA's hands. We can make that decision much easier by continuing to win, which we did today.

Need to finish .500 or better in conference games. Some added wins against the Sooners this weekend could only help.
OSU is currently 7-8/26-17 with four teams ahead of them and Arizona (6-9/27-12) right behind.
The teams ahead of OSU only have 2/3/7/7 total losses, respectively.
Need a .500 or better overall record to be NCAA-eligible. Don't have to be above .500 in conference play, although if we are we will certainly be in the field.

If we are above .500 in conference there is no guarantee OSU gets a bid to the tournay. Only auto qualifier is PAC Champ.(or so I heard earlier from a very imformed individual)

We were 9-15 in conference last year, 28-25 overall, and made the field. Our RPI is 15 or 16. If we finish 3-4 games over .500, we most likely will be in. If we finish .500 in conference by going 5-4 in our last nine, we will have 31 wins at minimum. We will not only be in the tournament, we might host.

For some perspective: 2017 Overall 28-27 Conference 9-15 Made tournament 2016 30-20-1 9-14 Made tournament 2015 26-26 6-18 didn't make it 2013 34-23 8-15 Made tournament *Coach Berg's first year as head coach 2012 36-23 9-15 Made tournament * Coach Berg's first year as an assistant. Walker's team was 2-19 in conference the year before. I'm hoping what Berg is saying about being over .500 in league is just coach speak. It's pretty common for every pac 12 team to make the tourney save one or two per year depending on how down of a year they have. I don't know this but I would bet that in none of those years we made the tournament the RPI was even close to what it is right now. Hoping for the best!

See: OSU baseball 2016. Baseball is irrelevant to softball. Different sports, different selection criteria.

Not just different selection criteria, the fact remains that the Pac-12 is simply the strongest softball conference in the US - we have been ranked in the top 30 or better most of the season and there are still a bunch of Pac-12 teams ahead of us. Finish in the top 30 with a sub 20 RPI and we ought to be in the tournament. This is a killer league to be a softball team in.
