Hope we see lots of this in coming years.....
As one center gets drafted tomorrow, let's hope we start grooming another one from OSU......and maybe more than one!
Go Beavers!

Okay, I've seen enough! AA starts at forward, PM at center, Taya at the other forward, DS starts at PG, and 5 other talented players fight for the final starting spot! AA is a lot more mobile than I'd figured based on that clip. She puts the ball on the ground and takes 2 big steps, leans into the shot and makes it look so easy. Smooth. The starting lineup is finally coming into focus! Now Katie Baker just needs to coach them up a bit like she did Marie.

If you want to see more of her play in that All Star game: Thanks! If her teammates made any kind of effort to get her the ball inside instead of shooting wild shots and getting blocked taking it to the hoop, they would win handily. Of note: Her short shot at 4:00, her layup at 7:25, her 3-pt shot at 9:55, and an athletic layup at 15:00 that she missed. The announcers can't seem to praise her enough.

Also appreciated her dribbling at the 1:52 mark - gets down low with the ball, shows some agility/passing ability with the ball here and there as well.... We are only seeing flashes, but the talent has got to be there for the (very) lofty rankings, and we have all seen what the coaching staff can do from there. Key is that the substrate is there.....
Go Beavers!

Part B of that video. Of note are AA contributions at 5:50 and 9:40.

And a Patricia Morris game from last year. Lots of pts and rebs in this game. Hard to see how anybody can stop her close to the bucket. She's got some touch. A much more aggressive player than AA on defense and rebounding.

She also has an excellent stroke at the FT line. I liked the field general part. at the one minute mark she posts at the top of the circle, points back at the right wing to move towards the hoop, gets the ball and shoves a nice pass to the person she signaled to cut to the hoop, who then dishes off for a lay-in. And while she is not moving up and down the court with a lot of speed, she moves like someone who can run fast when she needs to, shifts to the backpedal smoothly. Good things for OSU in the next 4 years. Thank goodness the women's game is still 4 and done!

Just proves that it's not guaranteed that a really top play like her won't go to the WNBA early. AA will probably be good enough that she would be welcomed into the WNBA at a high salary after just her sophomore year. But we can hope she likes the college experience enough that she sticks around beyond that. Thanks Skrimshander, I stand corrected: The WNBA "requires players to be at least 22, to have completed their college eligibility, to have graduated from a four-year college or to be four years removed from high school." I guess it's not like the NBA. However! I've seen that Aquino is older than you would expect for an incoming freshman, so perhaps she could leave at age 22 after her junior year.

You have to be 22 years old to play in the WNBA. Nobody is going anywhere after their sophomore season.

Somebody could go after their sophomore season.

Q: Do Mormon girls go on missions?
A: Women over the age of 21 may also be called as missionaries, but they only serve 18 months. The vast majority of the missionary force -- 76 percent -- are young men. In addition to women, a few missionaries are married couples or older Mormons serving a second mission.
The correct age for women is 19. It has changed in the last 10 years.

A much more aggressive player than AA on defense and rebounding. IMO, there's a big gap between AA and PM, particularly on the upside. First, I wouldn't put a lot of stock in AA's aggressiveness in an all-star game. What I love is AA is just really fluid in her movements. Sometimes her positioning causes her issues, but when she's balanced, you can tell she's just on another athletic level for someone of her size. I also really like that she demands the ball and is comfortable on the offensive end - I'm not really seeing much of that in the Morris video. Morris' team in particular should be giving her the ball every time down the court, and she doesn't seem to command it like her team needs her to. Don't get me wrong - Morris looks to really good, it's just that AA show much more than I expected at this point in her career. It's going to help them a ton that both of these ladies are going to be able to got at each other all year round getting better - along with an immediate baptism of Pac-12 level strength the first time they try to push Grymek around.

While I can't tell how tongue in cheek your comment was, I do think you paint a formidable scenario for next year - though I think AA will be starting at the post, Taya, DS starting as well, with a variety of backcourt/frontcourt combinations available to us that could stress long balls (KTMac/Kat/Goodman), slashing (Mik/DS/Jazz), instant offense? (Goodman/Kat/Kalmer), height (imagine AA, PM and Grymek on the floor at the same time)......Collapsing down on the tall timber in the paint will be fraught with danger in years ahead....regardless, I think this team has a good chance of showing up in the Moda center for the 2019 and 2020 tournament regionals......and present more mismatches and less of the ball-handling Achilles heel. Very interesting couple of years ahead. Go Beavers!

I can't imagine a scenario where KtMac doesn't start and play the most minutes just like this year. She and Marie were voted summer leaders last year, Marie spent time in Germany. During that time I assume KtMac stepped up. She will be our senior leader, she is already our clutch shooter.
Besides that, she is our best chance of keeping our WNBA draft steak alive! Who was thinking Marie would go first round last spring?
