Any word on a PG? Any word on anyone? The other team I follow closely -- Illinois -- has signed 4 recruits in the last month. Need me some good news on the Beav front.

WT just visited James Akinjo - 2018 PG (Richmond, CA) who was released from his LOI with UCONN after Kevin Ollie was fired. He's a pretty popular recruit right now - Georgetown, Cal, Arizona, Tennessee, San Diego State and others have been by to see him since he was released.
Was ranked #18 PG in the nation according to 247...
We do know a thing or two about Oakland-area PGs.

Now he would be a good get. Come on WT, reel him in.

Now he would be a good get. Come on WT, reel him in. Feels like a pretty crowded party, but at least compared to the others in the mix, I like that we can offer that 1) we don't have a PG on the team - and you, James Akinjo, are a PG. 2) we aren't coached by Sean Miller. That's all I've got at the moment.

Georgetown is bad but young. Tenn. is good but I don't think they're losing much this year. Seems like he might want to get out of the area, so Cal might not be a top option (plus, they're bad). We need Gary Payton or junior to give us an assist.

Tinkle interview www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2018/04/wayne_tinkle_on_drew_eubanks_o.htmlWith four spots opened, you’ve mentioned the potential of singing another big. What about those other three remaining spots? We need to get some experience at the point guard position. If you look at it with Ronnie graduating, with Kendal leaving, we really only have the three true guards in Stevie, Ethan and Zach. Zach’s a little bit of a combo forward. We could sign maybe a couple of guards there and we talked about signing another big, whether that’s a five-man or a four-man. Some guys that we’re involved with are some guys with athleticism at the four. That’s something that we really haven’t had. Just an incredible athlete. Somebody that can rebound and run and get off the floor. And then with the fourth one, we’re talking about the best player regardless of position. We know we probably need to sign a big; we know we probably need to sign one or two guards. And then with that last one, the best player out there or then we can make a decision if there’s nobody out there we feel can really help us from a depth position, we can always maybe pigeonhole a scholarship for the next class. We’re involved with some good, good players. If we could get four that we think could really help us, obviously we’d do that. Will you want experience coming in given the upperclassmen that are not coming back? For sure. We know at that point guard position, we don’t have a lot of experience. We know Stevie and Ethan did a great job holding the fort down there this year. But we also know that they’re really good running those wings and running to the corner. Stevie spotting up. It would be nice to have a guy that could push that ball in the middle of the floor, make plays for us in fullcourt and the halfcourt. Kind of that alpha male, put the ball under your shoulder and run the show. Be an extension of the coaching staff out there, something that we’ve missed a little bit. We feel like you can bring in some young guys, too, in that position. We know that that’s a big, big piece for us. So we’re looking at potentially a couple people. One can learn from the other. If it’s a grad transfer or junior college, who knows? Then you’ve got some other guys ready waiting in the wings. It wouldn’t surprise me – I’ve played young point guards in the past. The nice thing is if we get a couple of the ones we’re looking at, we feel like we can answer all of those questions.

Kid played 9 games last year and qualified for a medical redshirt. Junior year he avg 34 min 35.4% on 3s 65 att, 6.3 assists and 2 to/game. 11 ppg to boot. All time assist leader for Samford

Have heard there's a PG that decommitted from SDSU that Wayne and staff have been visiting recently. 6'2" Lefty and supposedly a real good ballhandler. Don't know a name or any stats but what I heard from a guy who played a round of golf with Wayne last week.

He signed his loi in Nov so I wonder if they released him. Would love him and a JC/Grad PG.
