The pitching? Or handling of said staff? No reason for leaving guys in... use the effing pen. No one has tossed that much to not be used a hitter or two. Every arm but starters should be able to throw some. Not sure who I would trust out from the pen, unless Pearce and Mulholland go two innings each at least. Except it's there job to have them ready. They've "trusted" some way too much... yet keep leaving them hanging and typically they end their stint in negatives. There are enough arms to get outs from the 5th/6th on. Why save a closer and lose games. Jake was and wants to be a starter... he can go 3+ while a team crawls back in. At 5-4 you go with the best you got and go from there. Now 7-4... crawl back to 7-5... then let Sam walk the lead off to bring in Jake anyway? And... in not using him regularly bringing him in now he's in a completely... EFF... different situation... effing...

Question is can we flush this weekend and bounceback or is this a death blow.
I think combo of Nick back and Pat's fire means bounceback but we'll see......

Well this weekend has solved one mystery. I now know why OSU's coaching staff decided to no longer allow the posting of baseball stats on the official web site. Who would want to see these right?
And Mike Parker is no longer complaining about leaving runners on base as he's discovered a new thing to complain about this weekend - double plays. I liked it better when we were leaving guys on base and beating opponents and it was the other, losing team that was grounding into double plays.
Good teams at any level have bad stretches of play. Here's hoping that this is our bad stretch.

Plenty of time for pitching to improve. The last three weekends haven't been real promising. Fehmel and Gambrell should have improved by now. I expect new starters on Saturday and Sunday in Tucson.

Plenty of time for pitching to improve. The problem is not the 20-4 or 20-5 record. The problem is that the tough part of the schedule is coming up, and the pitching will have to improve a lot against that good competition. This series has been a real eye opener even for the optimists even though Coach Casey has been talking about the problem even during the Surprise games.
