LOL. everyone gets so salty when kids do this stuff and it's been going on everywhere for a long while now. We have kids on our football team who just did the same thing in February, except they chose us. We also don't know to what extent parents/coaches/others are behind it all vs the kid (look at the Ball family). Who cares, it's a party for an 18 yr old high school girl. If she would have put on an orange and black hat I bet everyone would have gotten over it pretty dang quick. Perhaps true in football, though I don't recall our signees waiting a day or two beyond signing day to sign for maximal fawning media coverage, holding a skills/video exhbition, etc. etc. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with that approach, life is short, make it memorable.......just depends on what it takes for an event to be memorable to a person...... In the realm of WBB, I think it will continue to be rare to see those kinds of recruits signing with us. We might continue to be in the mix for them, however, as the program continues to grow in stature. For example, the 6th ranked recruit in the country just signed with us, and she did so on signing day, with minimal fanfare, no array of hats - and note she picked us almost a year prior and remained steadfast in her commitment. Go Beavers! Well said 2gb. Even if more girls put on a dog and pony show, I doubt that they are going to be the ones signing with the beavs. There doesn't seem to be much I with the girls Rueck signs. I have nothing against Evina, she is supposed to be a great talent, I just don't think she would fit in.

Where as when Anderson took over it was at it's peak. Of course having Gary Payton sure helped. The peak of OSU Men's Basketball was not the Gary Payton era. While I am not from Oregon I do have some inkling as to some of Oregon St.'s history. I was not implying that when Gary Payton was at Oregon St it was at it's peak. Programs go through various ups and downs. The peak part was only in reference to a portion of one of the up and down cycles. It was meant to be more in context with my other posts. I had stated earlier that When Holly took over the Tenn program was already at it's decline from what it was. Some believe that Summits illness was the reason. I am not of that group, although her illness sort of speeded up a process already in motion. The recruits were still there but the results were not. The peak I was referring to during Andersons take over was only in respect to a limited time period. Unlike with the Summit- Holly transition the program was not declining, but actually was at a short team peak with any decline happening later. The Vol program was on a long term decline that was exacerbated by Holly's appointment. I was attempting to clarify the contrast between the situations between Anderson and Holly. That was presented to me by a poster. Obviously I was not clear enough.

I was hoping that she would sign with us last year until she put on her "look at me" signing party the second day of signing so she would have all attention. Put on an hour plus video showing how great she is. I knew then that we didn't want her. Sounds a bit like the I I I I player south of here. LOL. everyone gets so salty when kids do this stuff and it's been going on everywhere for a long while now. I know of a 2018 high profile recruit who put out a video that that used musical chairs by team mates to announce her choice. She was criticized by some for that. But the reality was that she was talked into it by her teammates who got together and came up with a unique way to announce. The player herself is very humble and would never have done that except as a concession to a fun team event. It was just a group of girls having fun being creative and nothing more.

Yep.. and if you've ever spent time at the Salem Hoop well.. let's just say I wouldn't be surprised if they were largely behind it all. They want to showcase athletes to attract future athletes for club ball, traveling teams, etc. At the end of the day, SR kept recruiting her to the very end, so he must not have been too worried about fit.

ochobeavo - good points. While SR was in conversation with E Westbrook up until her announcement, there were posters on this forum months prior claiming it was well known she was headed east......though I too was hopeful, since even in her twitter feed there was lots of pictures with Beaver logo gear (though I hear the Westbrook family roots for the Beavers). I think her brother even committed to the MBB team once upon a time, but when he played here at Gill was as a member of some opposing team. Go Beavers!

Yeah that's funny - I was actually at the game where her brother was in town (LJ Westbrook) and took me a minute to realize that was the same kid from Salem - was Prairie View A&M. He was a 1 time Beav commit under Robinson IIRC, went to N. Salem, then senior year transferred to a prep school (i.e. basketball factory back east). Ended up at a JC, then Prairie View and last I heard left PVAM and went to an NAIA school somewhere.

I know someone who is friends with her family. She is a very sweet gal who has her reasons for wanting to be on the other side of the country. She is a really sweet young woman. I always appreciated her friendliness and the humble way that she deals with people. She wanted to get out of the area and expand her world. I don’t know if she’ll end up being as good as that high ranking she had as a senior, but she’s plenty talented and she’ll have a nice college career, and her life won’t be strictly defined by basketball. Just ask Katie Mac whether she would have liked playing at OSU with Evina. You would get an emphatic “yes” from her.
