1) The biggest positive is 2 all Americans. This is the only the second time under Zalesky they had more than 1, if I remember correctly. The downside was they only took 4 to nationals, which is the lowest under Zalesky. The percentage of those who ended up on the podium was the highest under Zalesky.
2) The biggest negative was this was probably the weakest team Zalesky has had. The team was built better for nationals and not very good for dual meets. The positive is the team loses only one starter and will be vastly improved for both dual meets and nationals next year. Injuries had a big impact in team depth.
3) Dhesi had the highest placing under Zalesky at 3rd and he is the clear cut favorite for next year. Negative, Zalesky has yet to coach a national champion in 12 years at Oregon State.
4) Incoming recruiting class is decent. The recruiting is comparable to the past and forecasts similar results to the past 12 years, but not improvement.
5) All the all Americans returning next year is really good. We continue to turn in poor performances by some who were expected to do better. This last year it was Griego at nationals and Hathaway had a disappointing season.
6) The team placed 21st at the national tournament. We would like to see better. This is actually an incredible placing considering they only wrestled 4. They have brought 7-9 wrestlers and finished worse.
The much too early lineup for next year (this is based on who I think gives us the best options):
125- Bresser
133-Turner, I think that he showed us the latter part of the season that if he plays to his strengths then he can compete with almost any one at the weight.
141- Willits or Moder look to be the best options.
149-Reyes
157-Willits, it does not look like the coaches will have much choice as I am sure they would like to think about redshirting him.
165-Olmos, I have yet to see anything from the others at this weight that makes me believe they will be competitive at a national level. There are questions about Olmos ability as well, but he seems to be the best to me.
174-Doyle, hopefully he will be healthy. He looks to be the clear cut best option. Terry will benefit from a red shirt. I also have my doubts that Terry will maintain this weight. He may be 184 soon.
184-McLeod. The others at this weight would benefit from a red shirt. Hopefully McLeod will be healthy.
197- Griego. He is a good option, the depth is poor so there really isn't another option.
285-Dhesi.
Another note, the roster continues to be very inaccurate in regards to weights of the wrestlers.
