This tweet:
I guess Gulich getting drafted in the WNBA and Jo being a senior will signal that we develop bigs for the next level, some PT might be available, there will be good competition even in practice, and that OSU is a destination, but if someone coming out of HS wants to be "The Franchise", might be a deterrent? Oh well, at least the next couple of years will be fun in the paint for us!
Go Beavers!

I hope so. Can't teach tall. When Gulich gets drafted I certainly hope that high school post players and their families and coaches pay attention. One post going from a nobody to a pro can be luck, add a second one shortly after and it becomes a pattern. Throw in a couple of mid level wings and teach them up to a professional level and it becomes a standard.
All teams say their players are like family, the beavs show it on the court and off.

All teams say their players are like family, the beavs show it on the court and off. I agree - I can't decide if it is my bias, but I could swear the Beavers appeared more tight knit than the Vols the other day. The interactions of the Vol players didn't seem the same as what the Beavers showed. And we know that DS found the same to be true with Maryland. I suspect SR is really, really on to something when he looks foremost for "cultural fit" - I recall reading an article re: DS where he wanted to make sure she wouldn't upset the culture with her transfer. Looking/reading/hearing about some of the "grand" recruits we have "missed" on, they on occasion appear to not be a great fit with our culture. In one of the Civil Wars this year, I caught a very snarky exchange between Graves and SI on TV - now there might be very innocent explanations for the exchange, but I have *never* seen anything like that occur between SR and any of his players - ever. Discerning, smart young ladies looking for a certain kind of atmosphere will see it on display (great for us to have a deep run in the Tourney the year before we need to sign 3-4 recruits), and those that miss it might have cost us more than they brought to the party.... Go Beavers!

Go Beavers! 2ndGenBeaver, I find your comments about S.I. interesting. I think you and I can see the same things. I think S.I. has an ego that needs to be feed. I don't know if she needs a father figure in her life or what. I watched the Oregon game and in the 4th quarter when the ducks were ahead by 40, Graves pulled his starters out. The camera panned the sidelines and caught S.I. giving the coach a small pout for pulling her. I think she wanted to continue adding to her stats. Later, another shot shows her being a goof ball and the others were interacting with each other but not with her. She was on her feet and runs over to graves trying to get his attention but he ignores her and focuses on the game. I think you saw something the same way I did. I think she needs attention and is always looking for it. Graves maybe a little perturbed by her behavior but doesn't want to upset her so he just chooses to ignore her when focused on other things. I think coach R is not too upset he didn't get her. She said in one of her interviews she didn't want to be just another piece of the team. she wanted to be theee piece. ducks can have her. GO BEAVERS !!!

GO BEAVERS !!! To dwell on your point a little bit, note the Twitter "bylines" (whatever the quotes are that go with the names) for some players: AA: If you put God 1st,you'll never be last JS: 2 corinthians 9:11 DS: I am second Aleah: Let go and let God (shine) Kalmer: God's path is the only path I want to walk. Thankful. (Several of our players don't have anything listed, FYI). Sabrina? "THE FRANCHISE". Rae Burrell had something like "If you aren't first, you're last" back when we were recruiting her..... Sabrina also has some nice religious things as well - and my point is not to be critical of anyone and their beliefs or philosophy. But there is a personality type that can be part of something bigger, that can be satisfied with what Agile process calls "servant leadership". And there is another personality type that needs to be "da man". And the popular culture prizes one approach over the other, and many players reflect current culture. It is also a level of maturity thing.......And I think SR preaches being part of something larger than yourself. That attracts a certain kind of player, and likely repels a different kind of player, who needs to be the largest thing going. We see it play out in the recruiting process...... Personally, I appreciate the humility that some of these very talented young women seem to possess. And I think the SR approach leads to happier, more satisfied, more at peace and fulfilled lives (I love his quote when he was hired - his players "didn't have to like each other, but they did have to love each other"). To some (and I work with some of these kind of people as well), this may seem "loser-ish". I think it is good for those kind of players to end up elsewhere. Billy Joel: "If that's moving up then I'm moving out..." As a result, OSU may not end up fielding a team made up of the best players, but we will end up fielding one of the best teams. And that is what I love about basketball..... Go Beavers!
